If you know the paint is going to get abused.....

So, when your detailing a car...and the owner washes it MAYBE twice a month...and when they do, they goto CarSpa and their tunnel wash....



What can you put on at the end to minimize the damage this causes?





For the record, its my wife....and the minivan...im not waxing this beast of a machine 5 times a year because she doesnt care much about the paint (its just a car she says....) I plan on waxing/polishing it maybe twice a year.

I have Megs 105/205 with new pads on teh way and will be using those on this beast of a vehicle, but want it to last thru the abuse...is it a "sealant" i want? or...?





Any suggestions?
 
i would wash it myself (and I do about every 4-6 weeks, when i cant stand to look at the filth any longer). carspa is only 4 bucks (and you get a free wash 2 days later, yey!) with free vacums.





I keep telling myself, if she doesnt give a ****, then why should I...but I dont listen to myself, lol.





Will that blackfire stuff help curb some of the swirling?
 
only thing that is going to curb or get rid of some of the swirling is to either compound/polish it out or to use a glaze to fill in the swirls and mask them (for a short period of time)

Waxes/sealants are designed to repel water, UV rays, and help resist debris from collecting on the car because it is now a bit slicker. There isn't any protection from dirt/sand/debris rubbing along the paint and scratching it.



Have you ever seen a 3M clear bra and how thick it is? That is the level of protection needed to protect the paint surface.

I'd probably do the same thing I'm doing with mine now- heavily layered KSG. I think it provides a little protection against marring if you get enough on there. Even though our minivan has the softest paint of any of our vehicles, and gets used the hardest, and I'm less careful when washing it, it still stays basically marring-free indefinitely. For that I simply have to consider giving credit to the six-or-more layers of KSG.



But that's if you want to try keeping it really nice.



If you're just gonna let it get marred up, I'd go with some "glazey" AIO like 1Z WPS or Autoglym SRP, topped with Collinite wax... and then try not to care about it. The BF might not be a bad alternative as their pre-sealant stuff supposedly does a bit of concealing same as the WPS and SRP do. I just find Collinite to work out better overall for really neglected vehciles.
 
Im thinking Megs 105(orange pad)/205(black pad) combo, then that blackfire stuff, I have read good things about it, and can use it on other vehicles as well...the only thing i dislike is the 8 hour cure time.





What pad to use with the blackfire? black? or that red pad (they say to use their "best in show" wax with this pad) that came with my Griots garage DA?
 
Hey guys...in your experiences, is it common for women to not care about waxing/protecting their vehicles?...a woman neighbor of mine just bought a new Accord...I suggested she put a nice coat of wax on it for the winter...and she looked at me like I was from another planet!



I CAN"T be the only woman who details her car....lol

its rare.





my wife could give 2 ***** about her van, its "just a car" to her.



Needless to say I wont be getting any 'nice' automobile for her anytime soon.





I will get her a $700 beater corolla...and when she complains, I will be like, its just a car, it gets you from point A to point B, right?

Most women just don't care about the outside of a car, not out of disrespect but because it just doesn't interest them in the least. All they care about is it gets them from point A to point B. My guess is that because they feel this way they simply don't realize what is happening to the paint (and other surfaces of the car), to them the car is still red and/or it is simply normal wear and tear.



On the flip side of that, most vehicles I get from women are far cleaner on the inside than the normal vehicle I get from a man. Men are flashy and like the outside to shine, women care for the comfort inside since that is what they will be looking at.

I get my Megs 105/205 tomorrow, and my next day off is sunday, so i plan on hitting up the van with the Megs then....



I wont get my blackfire till next week, so it will be at least 10 days till im able to apply it.



Should I just do the Megs 105/205 and leave it? Or throw on some NXT or something till i put the blackfire on?
 
IME most *PEOPLE* couldn't care less about the cosmetics of their cars, even the "car guys" I know seldom keep their hobby cars as nice as most Autopians keep their daily drivers.

The red Griot's pad works fine for zero-cut-pad applications, but if I were gonna do a sealant by machine I'd look into the Gold LC pad. Eh...I usually do my sealants by hand.
 
Save yourself a lot of grief :



have her spring for the 'hot wax' while being tunnel washed

turn a blind eye to the swirls on "her" minivan

devote your time and effort to "your" car



You'll be a better man for it!

Why not making car washing a family event?! The kind you see on TV with

happy kids, sexy wife in short shorts and lots of suds in the glorious sun. Oh yeah.



And everything happens in slow motion.
