If you know the paint is going to get abused.....

Save yourself a lot of grief :

have her spring for the 'hot wax' while being tunnel washed

turn a blind eye to the swirls on "her" minivan

devote your time and effort to "your" car

You'll be a better man for it!

Bah, I cant do that, it drives me absolutely batsh!t insane to see that every day, especially now that I did my own car.

Im hitting it up with Megs 105/205 on Sunday, but my blackfire doesnt come in till next week, so it will be 10-14 days before I can put the blackfire on...

Should I put something (ie: Megs NXT) on it till then? Or should I just leave it at the 105, and wait?

Can I put the blackfire over the NXT?

Hey guys...in your experiences, is it common for women to not care about waxing/protecting their vehicles?...a woman neighbor of mine just bought a new Accord...I suggested she put a nice coat of wax on it for the winter...and she looked at me like I was from another planet!

I CAN"T be the only woman who details her car....lol

will you marry me?

I wouldnt put nxt before the blackfire, it wont bond properly...just leave it bare, or hold off on the polishing!

dont want to hold of, i dont get many days off, and it needs to be done.

makes sense about the bonding, but will it be ok with just the 105/205 combo? Will the 205 offer a little protection by itself?

No, and as the M2o5's oils dissipate things will look worse instead of better. Even finding some OTC Collinite might be a viable option.

i would then hit it with 105 on day, and then 205 the same time you wanted to apply the blackfire if you are worried about it...

I honestly wouldnt care about it not being protected for a week. I havent detailed my car properly in over 17 months, and it hasnt seen wax in a year! Its definitely due for a detail, but one week wont do any harm, just wash with dawn dish soap before applying the BFWD to strip whatever is on the surface completely

oh noes....went out to recheck everything on the van (the wife just ran it thru carspa, again, lol)

Saw this:

On the rear quarter panel.

Looks like the clear coat is coming off.

can I still do the 105/205 over this? or will it rip the rest of the clear off?

Also, similar damage on the pilars on the doors, at the top:

I know I am going to have to get this re-cleared, but cant afford that for a while...i dont want to make it worse though......

Both melissa809 and citizen acane hit the nail on the head. Just let your wife run the van thru a tunnel wash and leave it go at that. At least it will be clean.

Focus2069- My '93 Audi has areas of clearcoat failure and peeling paint. I went over them *very* gently with the same products I used on the rest of the car. Note that this this ended up making the messed up areas a bit larger as some of the paint was ready to flake off anyhow. After the damaged area got a bit larger, I got to the point where the paint was still adhering OK, so it's not like the areas got *HUGE* or anything. The compounding/polishing smoothed over the edges of the cc failure and, IMO, made them less likely to keep chipping/peeling/etc. back farther. I then LSPed these areas heavily and tried to be gentle with them.

It's been quite a while since I did that (did it for the original owner and subsequently bought the car from her) and the damage hasn't spread. Not at all.

Little tough getting out of the driveway in NE Ohio right now. Never know where I'll find myself when the snow melts. Next time I get near the City I'll drop a line.
