Quickie Review: M105

Today I did a 2003 black Z06, first time with M105.



I did like 3-4 passes with the M105 with the yellow edge wool at 1700 and went straight to Ultrafina with the blue foam 3M 8" pad. Took the car outside and no holograms at all. UF got out the slight wool marring that M105 left with ease.

The CarQwest "paint" store near me has both Megs 105 and all the 3M stuff, check the CarQwest web site for a "paint" store near you.

Nice, no need for 3M 3000 EC, is the pricing competitive with online/other local places?

How long did it take you to finish it?

Ryan, I would say the new process cut at least 2 hours off of my usual marathon polishing sessions.



As Todd was kind enough to explain to me, the M105 cuts really fast with wool.



I apply 2 dime size "blobs" on the wool pad.



Spread it out with the machine off.



Work it in quickly on low speed.



Crank it up to 1700 and polish a 2x2' section in about 15-20 seconds using fast arm motion.



Wipe off residue and repeat till defects are corrected.



Go straight to ultrafina. :bow

I got around to trying 105 myself and found the Edge2000 Green Wool pad (I used a 6.5") worked fantastic. You're 100% right about too much product gumming and also dusting like crazy. I cut back my usage and it really finished well....almost LSP ready with a green wool pad. Great stuff!

Silva- I don't know about the price, I bought the 3M 3000 EC a while back and still haven't used all of that yet.

Very hard Bimmer Silver Gray. Where I had scratching, I used 105 with the Edge pad (yellow) and where the finish was in good shape, I switched to IP with the Edge Blue (green'ish) pad.

I'll give a car a quick polish today with 106 and a finish pad (but it almost doesn't need it), then a power wash and final LSP

Just FYI for those in Dallas-Wash Solutions will be getting more #105 in (I called today, they are out right now) on Tuesday or Wednesday. Did a brand new Z06 today and M105 via a polishing pad @1500RPM's cleaned up all of the dealer-installed marring. It is just a great product!

Something that offers a high cut yet finishes like a final polish... Meguiars may have a winner. I find it unusual that its that much better than the competitors usually everyone keeps pace.



How does this compare to the Solo creme? They both appear to be similar in that they both use this "latest technology and both don't use diminishing abrasives.



I assume the solo creme has less smaller size abrasives compared to M105?



If M105 finishes really well then solo creme much finish LSP ready every time.

I haven't found that M105 finishes quite like a final polish, but pretty close. I know that Joe (SuperiorShine) finished a couple of cars with M105. The thing about it is that it has an SUPER FAST work time.... 15-20 seconds and its done (maybe less). Work it longer and you will instill marring as the the lubrication dries and the pad abrades the paint.



I'm not sure about Solo Creme, but M105 followed by 106ff or 3M UF-SE is a great two step that will handle most paints IME. Of course its nice to have a good middle polish like

M83, SIP, IP or something to handle the paints that need a middle step. You can never have too many different polishes to handle whatever arises...

Has anyone tried mixing this with Opt Polish to ease the high abrasive/gumming? Use to be a trick for HTEC. How's Solo creme?

M105 seems a bit pricey at $82/gal. I've been using Farecla G3 and it does exactly what M105 does at fraction of the price. $23 for a 3kg tub. As i use a lot of it in my biz I tend to buy them in tubs.



Like M105 it will tend to cake up the pads after doing half a car so i generally high pressure the pads before I proceed with the 2nd half. Squirt 2 blast of water (for optimal performance) with an atomiser on the pads (polishing / cutting) and G3 works fast at removing 1500 - 2000 abrasive marks and more (fish eyes, orange peel, oversprays etc..).

Automotive Polish Finishing - Farecla

Normally after Farecla G3 I would use Optimum PS to arrive to a holo free finish



Not playing down on M105 but when it comes to price and results I can't look pass Farecla G3.



Another product which I've used and quite impress with lately is PPG+ Pro-1 Polish System (New Zealand product). It's a revolutionary polish which Cuts, Polishes and Removes Swirlmarks in 1 single product. <$10/lit. Used in on a 05' Merc ceramic paint and it quickly corrected the scratches and medium swirls which Menzerna PowerGloss couldn't in a short time frame. Of cos after all the hard work in 'prep' i will always slap on a nice layer of sealant either JW or Optimum's OS.



Anyway just my opinions on products I love to share with U fella autopians.

Solo creme (M86) after doing alot of research is somewhat similar to M105.



M86 aprox 8 on the cutting scale

M105 is a 12 on the cutting scale



M105 is a little too strong to finish perfectly with a foam pad (sligh marring/holograms)

M86 is fine enough to finish perfectly with a foam pad according to all sources.



M86 aparently has a slightly longer working time too.



Solo creme would be a good medium grade polish similar to 106FF



M105 with a wool cutting pad and then M86 with a foam finishing pad may be a very impressive two step combo.

Just a thought on the "medium polish discussion"--I typically use Presta 1500 or SIP *after* compounding with a wool pad and a heavy cut compound. Next week I am going to try to use 105 wool, then step to 105 with a polishing pad, then UFSE. I have a 2005 645 in the shop right now that is *hammered* and needs some serious correction. I feel confident ater using the 105 with a polishing pad lately that it can be a great middle step after wool simply by changing pads.
