Long adventure.... I need a vacation :(

They don't compare. Presta is very nice compound, 105 is head and shoulders above it, IMO. The cut time is 15-20 seconds (don't work it longer) and its done. Very little product is needed, work it until the defects are removed, and wipe away. If you over work it, it will go dry and you will actually see the marring increase from the wool pad. Work it hard and very quickly then move on. The defects come out so fast (1-2 passes).

The learning curve is steep because it goes against everything we hold evident to polishing (breaking down the abrasives, etc). I cut all the defects out of a black C6 in under 30 minutes.

There is a god! :bow

I have been poking around the house today waiting for the big brown truck to deliver my M105. I need it for a 03 Black Z06 tomorrow. :furious: :)

Sounds like a good go to for hard paints! It would be great to get a PTG reading before and after. Who will tackle that?

Cheers,

GREG

Todd....did you guys use it with foam pads and a rotary or was most of your experience with it with wool???

We have used quite a bit of the 105 here in the shop--just finished my first qt. I have used it on Audi paint (super hard), Porsche, C6, fesh paint (10 days old), old Honda paint, and a few others. Aside from the gumming issues when using foam pads, which is there is a remedy for btw, it is by far the best compound that I have used via rotary.

With a foam you must use *very* little, not "optimum little", but very little. Working the product too long, or having the pad loaded will result in gumming up. I recently purchased a LC system 2000 pad cleaner--I simply wash my pad every other panel and all is well. As others have stated, it cuts *quick.* Don't expect to work it like SIP, 106FF, OP, etc as you will dry buff or gum up the product.

IMO, it is best via a twisted wool pad in that it seems to *not* gum up, or at least not as easily. With a foam pad it will remove significant marring while leaving a very nice finish. On vehicles with severe to moderate defects (for customers paying for a two-step) I use the purple LC foamed wool pads. IMO, this is the best bang for the buck with this product--all of the cut, the increased cut (over foam) of the wool, yet it finishes out beautifully. Move to your final polish of choice and you are set.

Thank you Meguiars for making the product that we have been longing for! Now if you guys could reformulate the rest of your line using the same technology, I would be in heaven. :D

BTW, if you guys aren't using the W66 BP with the foamed wool, you are missing out!

Thanks Joe for all your input as well! Have you used it in cooler condtions yet? I will be in the clients garage tomorrow but the high is only going to be 46°. I am thinking I will be fine. Yes the Megs W66 BP rocks. Somehow I have it locked up on my metabo right now. First time that I have not been able to remove a BP by hand.

I haven't--the shop is heated/cooled. :D I am sure that it will be fine, let us know!

duke727, I was, can't speak for the OP.

The CarQwest "paint" store near me has both Megs 105 and all the 3M stuff, check the CarQwest web site for a "paint" store near you.

Quick Reivew:

M105 is simply the best compound I have used and is extremely versitile.

Compared to: Menzerna Power Gloss and 3M Extra Cut on White/Orange/Yellow/Purple Wool/Meguiars Solo Wool Light/100 Percent Twisted Wool.

We tested this polish vs. two of my favorites to see what how it stacked up. We also used a varity of pads to test the finish left behind, and wiped the finished surface with DuPont Prep-Sol to ensure all oils had been removed.

M105 simply cut more and faster then the other two (with PowerGloss being the slowest) and leaved the finished surface far nicer then the other two with each pad tested. It was the only product that fully removed 1500 sanding scratches on one pass (with a full wool) vs. two for Extra Cut and our for Powergloss.

We finished polishing with 3M Ultra Fina on a blue pad. With 3M Extra Cut as well as Powergloss on each of the wool pads, the finished required a middle step of Menzerna SIP on a LC White Pad to remove the marring before being able to be finished to perfection. On the Orange Pad and under Power Gloss was able to be finished out where as 3M Extra Cut required a third step on any pad.

M105 was also able to remove moderate marring on a white pad while finishing marring free (though it did leave hologramming that still required a second step).

It really worked well on a LC Purple paint on several different paints we used it on, as it removed most defects and left the surface ready for a final jeweling to ensure perfection.

The downsides are that using two much product will result in the product gumming up as well as the pad will "load" with product rather quickly. Once this happens, it will begin to gum up as well. So make sure you use a small amount (three SMALL dots, about half a dime or so each).

I got around to trying 105 myself and found the Edge2000 Green Wool pad (I used a 6.5") worked fantastic. You're 100% right about too much product gumming and also dusting like crazy. I cut back my usage and it really finished well....almost LSP ready with a green wool pad. Great stuff!

You can also order it at Auto Detailing Solutions for 69.95 for a gallon. I had to check on my price for it at SW automotive (employer), seems everyone is really liking this product.
