The difference between a cheap car wash shampoo and a expensive car wash shampoo

For those who have tried Clearkote's Car Wash... How does it stack up? Also, what is the new and improved formula? Is that the one that is available currently or a future release product? Thanks!

Really? I find just the opposite about P21S. The suds last me throughout the wash, and I've used it many times as a lubrication solution when I clay my cars. Price aside, I think P21S is one of the best shampoos available. I'd stock up every year when CarCareOnline have their yearly sale. Meguiar's GC is also an excellent shampoo and considering its price for a gallon, should be considered one of the better shampoos you can buy.

I have a question about the EO shampoo. Is the yellow one the same as the red one??

No the red oneis for dark colored cars ,, the yellow one is for yellow cars . :p

One thing: "....smells nice" is a VERY subjective thing. Some shampoos smell like some kind of fruit or candy, others smell like soap or aftershave (like GC). It depends on what kind of scent you like.

You've used Mothers. Do you like it? Do a search on this (and any of the others maybe) and those who have used it generally like it. It's pretty inexpenisve at London Drugs....

I've used TW Zip and it was nothing special in my opinion and smells pretty ordinary.

Lordco doesn't sell #62, at least not on the shelves. They do sell #00 in smaller bottles and that is also an excellent shampoo, but it has almost zero fragrance to it.

IMHO, most shampoos seem to have roughly the same amount of cleaning power if mixed correctly. At least, that's what I've found.

I wouldn't worry too much about the "harming wax" thing either. This is something that has been debated about a LOT at times, and only one or two shampoos (Pinnacle being one I think) have had more than a couple people agreeing that they're harder on wax. Some shampoos like GC advertise sheeting action I think, so things like that can make it seem hard on wax when it really isn't.

If cost isn't a high priority my suggestion is the Zymol at CT. These are unsealed and you can pop it open and take a sniff.

I own almost a DOZEN different shampoos just to try them out and see if I liked one better than the other. Get out there and start washing!

I like it. Very sudsy and it sheets real well. The new stuff is blue and has a faint cough syrup smell to it. I haven't tried the original version, so I don't know how it compares to what is available now.

I went to CT today (Richmond) and bought two shampoos. EO wet car wash (I know where I can get it now) and Sonax shampoo!!! I couldn't believe they have Sonax!!! I reconized the bottle so I took a closer look and it does said it's Sonax so I bought a bottle for only $9!! I believe it's the same thing as gloss shampoo?? I felt so lucky today. First, I bought the last Sonax shampoo there is in the whole store and the EO wash I bought had a bonus sample of "Wax as you dry" (2 oz) :lol. I also went to Lordco and saw GC shampoo for a crazy $13.09 for a 16oz bottle :shocked, no way I'm getting it.

I use the p21s, and I LOVE IT. The smell is awesome, about on par with the zaino, my other favorite. The lubrication is the best I've ever had... better than zaino, eagle, meg's gold, and whatever else I can remember! The cleaning ability is fine for me. It isnt the toughest for mud and really heavy dirt, but I have yet to encounter hardly any that. I love it :)

I recieved a 16 oz. bottle at a car show once (duragloss). I really liked it, and put it among the best I've used. However, one thing you said throws me off....the smell. I thought it smelled like cough syrup :p Can't find it in stores though.

I haven't tried many "expensive" washes, but the most expensive one I have is P21S wash. I had read really good things about it, but I wasn't impressed myself. :nixweiss

Duragloss has a great car wash soap, it just can be hard to find. Amazing suds, slippery feeling, smells great and does a good job of cleaning.

I don't BELIEVE I forgot about that one! :o I've never tried it, but it's supposed to be good I hear.

I've been using Meguiars deep cyrstal and it works fine. Seems easy on paint and wax as well as my hands, it's cheap too.

Opps. Here it is again :p. Very bad though :p, hope you don't mine.

Though I haven't tried them all ;) I agree, I haven't found a bad wash. TW's Zip Wax Wash is my favorite budget wash (@ $7/gal). Luckily I have not had marring issues like Accumulator encountered. The Zymol (@ $2.99/gal) closeout at Big Lots is mighty fine and I wish I could find more at that price. American Shine's Carnauba Wash is nice. Sonax is great, but pricey. This list can go on and on. One wash that is not bad, but I am not enthralled with (I am in the Autopia community minority) is Meguiar's Gold Class. Again, I certainly wouldn't recommend against it's use, but for the $s I'll use something else after mine is gone.

As for QEW, I luckily live in NE Texas where I have more days where I can drag the hose out and wash in the traditional method. For that reason, QEW will remain, for me, a tool in the kit, but not my go to wash product. I have mentioned already in another thread that it along with S&W are good product for washing door jambs.

Is Pinnacle Bodywork Shampoo tough on wax? I bought it thinking it was probably gentle, since Pinnacle Souveran is not considered very durable, and I didn't want to end up removing it.

By the way, $18 for 16 oz of Pinnacle seems insane. Has anyone observed a noticeable difference between this car wash and others that cost half as much?

Sorry chrisd, I think I should apologize for that remark. I swore I had read somewhere that a certain shampoo was fairly strong, but Pinnacle isn't it. I searched, and found that in fact most people loved the Pinnacle shampoo. :xyxthumbs Sorry to worry you like that! :o

~One mans opinion / observation~

For me two things I look for,

A good quality car wash provides a pH-balanced blend of active biodegradable ingredients, to provide lubrication to prevent scratching, to lift and encapsulate dirt, road grime and oils, with conditioners to maintain the shine without stripping the paint of essential oils (the way detergents do) and dispersing them in the rinsing process.

That it doesn’t leave a film on the surface.

How can you find a good car wash concentrate, search Autopia Review section?

~Hope this helps~

I used PBS for a long time. Years. Went through a LOT of those 1/2 gallon jugs. Yes, it is hard on wax. It'll often degrade fresh Souveran enough to make it feel slightly "tacky" after just one wash.

It's still a good shampoo, cleans well and has good lubricity. But yeah, it's VERY expensive if you wash a lot. Griot's isn't cheap, but at $30/gallon it's much less expensive, and *I* like it a LOT better than the PBS. I have them both here (along with many others), but I virtually NEVER use the Pinnacle.
