Subaru STi w/o.........

a few months back, my co-workers friend came out of the house one morning to find his civic hatchback on cinder blocks due to someone stealing his oem stock alloys. :angry

Here in Omaha, several sets of STi wheels have disappeared from dealerships; local Subie club members are keeping an eye out for them. We're a pretty tight community . . . I hope the crooks do something stupid like approach one of our LEO members.

"Pssst. Wanna buy some wheels cheap?" Jailarity ensues. (fingers crossed)

Thieves suck.

at least they had the decency to put it on some rocks. I know stealing the wheels is really kinda low, but i've seen pics where they just let the car sit on the frame.

Seriously though, why the hell do people f*ck with other people's cars.

It's such a shame that people can't have nice things without worrying about them all the time. I do think he should have had wheel locks though. My wheels and tires were only $730 shipped, but I got a set of wheel locks too just for peace of mind.

Man that sucks, but like Neo said, at least it was left on rocks. He is getting ripped off on new wheels and tires! I'd get some aftermarket ones for less or full on racing wheels for the same price. Wheel locks wont really help that much, I have a friend that works at a tire shop and he said you can buy a whole wheel lock key kit for like $40 and then you can take off any wheels you want. Its a deterent though, got them on mine.

the only reason they left it on rocks was so they could get the jack out! They were not doing him any favors.

And how exactly would that work?

Had a friend that the aftermarket wheels stolen off of his GTI. They too were "kind" enough to leave the car on some landscaping stones. At least he still had the factory wheels in his shed. It really is almost not worth it to have nice stuff anymore.

Alarm and wheel locks are good to deter possible theft from beginners but anyone that has a even a little expierence can bypass alarms and take off wheel locks in a matter of minutes or less. Its sad!

i had a compustar with wheel sensors too, but if you are out of range you won't get the page :)

wheel locks are only deterrents, not fail safe.

this is what insurance is for unfortunately.

sad but true... if someone wants your car or anything on it bad enough, they will get it no matter what kind of alarm or deterent you have. just when you think your a step ahead of theives, they one up you.

I kinda like that look... :getdown ...no, not a time for jokes thats ****** man...hope that thsoe rocks were placed rigth and nothing else got damaged...but look on the bright side, you can get new wheels and tires....if thats an upside...

Wheel lock keys get lost, cars get sold and old owners forget to give the keys to the new owner, etc. Hypthetical: I'm a kid about to go away to college, I buy a car from someone, and go to school halfway across the country a week after buying the car. A couple weeks later, my brakes start squealing, or I get a flat. I go to a garage, and they say "where is your wheel lock key?". Or a hundred other ways that happens (wife: oh, that round black thing? I didn't know what it was, it was rolling around in the trunk, so I threw it out.") So you can see how keys would be made available to garages, etc. If they are, you can bet the criminal element can get them too. Just like lockpick tools, which are legal to sell to locksmiths and law enforcement...you think there aren't dirty cops and locksmiths? Even if they don't use them themselves, there's a market for them...

Anyway, more directly to your question, how many different keys do you think there are for any given wheel lock brand? Not that many. Wheels or cars, anti-theft devices will deter/prevent kids/amateurs...if a pro wants your car, it's gone. Years ago we got notified where I work (one year one of the 10 safest towns in the country) to keep our eyes out...someone was going around with a flatbed tow truck, into medium sized company parking lots, and winching cars up onto the truck, and driving off with them. Nobody gave a second glance, just figured the car was dead and someone had called for a legitimate tow. If you do that in the morning, by the time the guy comes out from work and realizes his car is gone, it's already thru the chop shop, doesn't even do any good to ring the Lojack...

yeah, to put it into perspective, my wheel lock key was stolen when my car was broken into (ironically did not steal the wheels :)) these were rays engineering lug nuts (high end stuff) and I called them order a new key. No proof of purchase, nothing. They have 3, yes 3, different keys and that is it, 30 bucks per key.
