Opti Seal

One of my customer's employees is itching to get some too now. I was using it on his boss's Suburban while he watched (I also found out he at least lurks on Autopia) and the look on his face as I applied it and the product disappeared and the paint got wet was priceless. :)

As far as I know, the hold up is getting the labels.

Anyone have a durability estimate of this stuff? Also, is this a pure polymer formula or does it contain wax? Thanks

Anyone? Kinda makes a difference to me whether I will buy the stuff, guess to no one else though....

According to Anthony Orosco's testing, durability is extremely good. Minimum of several months. I haven't had it long enough to know myself.

Time wise I can't give an exact date but it looks to be very soon, especially if the labels are being printed right now. I can't say for sure as I haven't talked with David in the last few days.

Durability should be in the 7 months to 1 year period. As with all products your mileage may vary.

Will this be sold in a gallon like OCW?

OCW @ $29/gallon = quite a few applications and the label says an application of OCW lasts up to 5 months (although I've never seen these results in my use). A gallon of Opti-Seal will last even longer.:heelclick

Can Opti-Seal be applied to glass, trim, etc, or just on the paint?

How did you derive 7+ months of durability? Has the current formula been in BETA testing for a year or longer?

I'd like to know as well. Are those 7 months on a garage queen, or a DD that is outdoors? 7 months to a year is a pretty bold statement, I'd like to know a few more details about the test cars...

I'm curious as well. To this point, I've only read about beta testing results from Texas users, some who claim that carnauba's last 6 months or longer. The acid rain, salt/winter conditions, etc... on the East coast don't yield these results in my experiences.

Maybe other beta testers from different parts of the country will chime in.

Nope, not gallons only 8 oz bottles.

Opti-Seal has been in testing now for more than a year and on a garage queen I have it on it's gone around 1 year. On a daily driver of course it's going to be less.

So Opti-Seal can be a base and monthly or even weekly applications of OCW will give you great looks with great durability.

Opti-Seal can be applied to glass but I see no gain from it. I have applied it to glass and also hard types of trim with no problems but I only did that for testing as I treat those areas by other means.

Anthony, Thanks for your reply. It's very useful.

Won't I see the same great looks (subjective to my taste) and durability if I use a booster product with most any other brand, or are you saying that Opti-Seal and OCW will be sold as a LSP system and that it will be recommended to use both products for 7+ months of durability?

Realistically on an East coast daily driver the OptiSeal should give you at least 4 to 5 months as a sole LSP. Combined with a topper, say a carnauba or spray wax I'm sure it can be extended a month or so.

Here in South Texas we don't deal with such a harsh chemical attack as many of you East coast people do but we do deal with intense heat and humidity. So if I can get around 6 to 7 months with OptiSeal (which are semi-daily drivers) I'm guessing many of you East coast folks should get realistically 4 to 5 months. I would be very interested though to get some feedback once OptiSeal is released from the East coast crowd on their durability tests. I could be right on or I could be in complete error, either way I would like to know about it. Only way the product can be improved upon.

The benefits of OptiSeal over PoliSeal is mixed because they are 2 different animals. PoliSeal is more of an AIO type product designed for one step paint correction and finishing. It can be applied by hand, orbital or rotary.

OptiSeal on the other hand is designed for paint sealing alone. It has no correction properties and is unique from PoliSeal in that it is applied but there is no residue to buff off. It evaporates as you apply it leaving behind polymers which start to cross link to the paint. Since OptiSeal has no correction properties the paint must be properly prepped for it to achieve its optimum results.

Upon initial application you'll notice that OptiSeal is not very slick but after it bonds and sets up you should notice improved slickness and also an improved gloss.

Hope this helps,

Anthony

Slickness for me improves very quickly, by the time I finish applying it and dress the interior and clean the glass, Opti-Seal is already pretty slick.

I have it side by side with Clear Seal on a couple of cars and both sides are pretty slick at the 3-4 week point.
