NEW: Optimum Micro Fiber Pads!!

I am glad to see someone else releasing mf pads but also that Optimum seems to have started releasing them before they are in production for advance reviews.

I'm excited to see more offerings in the MF pad market, but I don't think I"ll bite on the polishing ones, I will however be ordering some of the cutting ones when they come out.

I've come to really appreciate surbuf and the MF cutting pads for what they can do on a RO, but I've yet to really see the need for the MF polishing / finishing pads. I've got way too many variations of foam sitting there that do an outstanding job of polishing and finishing to convince me to change.

...then again I was a late adapter to the Surbuf and MF cutting pads and love them now, just not in love with my MF finishing pads I currently have now.

I tried the micro shine MF polishing pad today, which IMO are the exact same as the OPT pads. I primed the pads as I would the Meg's MF pads(with D300) and it seemed to over saturate the micro shine polishing pad. They seem fluffier than the Meg's MF pads, so that might be why? I'm not really sure how to use these?

After giving Dr. G an update with my finding he mentioned that because his pads are a tiny bit smaller than the Meg's pads

Here is a pic of the 3.25" micro shine polishing pad. I have the 5.25" micro shine pad as well. Ironically, both of these pads are a tad smaller than the Meg's MF pads. They look identical! Optimum only has the polishing pad available, while micro shine only has the polishing pad available, too. IRONIC, HUH?!!! Cutting pads coming soon for both companies. Also, both companies offer the exact same sizes: 3.25", 5.25", and 6.25". Micro Shine offers their own backing plates specifically for their MF pads, too. This isn't rocket science guys.

More stuff to buy! :x I am glad to see more mf pads also. RE: cutting vs. polishing, I personally found the megs finishing pads cut just as well as the cutting pads (same material I think?), last longer, bog down less, etc.. I just ordered like 40 more, all finishing discs.

From what I have read, the mf in both finishing/cutting discs are the same but the foam is different?

I can't wait to give these a whirl.

The MF material IS definitely different between the cutting and finishing discs. ;)

It still appears the Optimum pads MF strands are MUCH longer than the Megs MF strands. Can anyone confirm this? I also wonder if the density of the MF is different. The pad density appears different too.

Cheers,

Thanks for the info Rasky....

I've never used the finishing discs, which is why I made sure to preface with "From what I have read".

No prob! ;)

They do appear to be the same at first glance....I think it was the fiber density and/or MF blend that was different.

Just as an update......I've been using these pads quite a bit since the start of this thread and they are holding up and working very well. Can wait for the Cutting Pads to arrive. Here's a pic of what they will look like:

Per Chris @ Optimum, it looks like the cutting pads will have an orange core:

The top and sixth are SUR BUF (we may start carrying these too), 4-5-9 are polishing, and the orange ones are cutting pads. You will need to use our backing plate as some velcros will not release the pads well and they can come apart with too much effort.

That's strange... looks like the cutting pad is thicker than the polishing/finishing pad. Exactly the opposite of Meguiar's.

just ordered the polishing pads today, waiting for AG to get back to me on the shipping cost. There's no backing plate listed on their site for these pads however
