Need Some Feedback

Troy@Protekt

a.k.a. Troy@DetailCity
The moderators and I have been discussing this and I thought I would ask the question publically and see what you guys have to say.

We are a bit baffled why a lot of members aren't posting. We get plenty of visitors (members and guests) each day but not a lot of posts. :hmmm:

Anything else I can do to encourage more participation?

I would like to hear what you guys have to say.

I did post today, there has been a lot of times I havnt posted. I guess it was because I didnt know about the subject or what I would have said was already covered. RANDAL

That is the million dollar question! I try to post and keep active, but I think a lot of people prefer to read. I don't know why they don't post. Maybe some are shy? I would like to see more people post. It seems to me that everyone on here is friendly and welcoming.

I personally think the number of sub forums needs to be trimmed down. I don't know if it would help with posting though. I think the weather being cold in many parts of the country is hurting the posting since people can't detail. Even here in Houston, we've gotten a wicked cold spell of rain and low 40's for temps.

I just did a quick detail of the Envoy today since the temps got into the 60's.

I had wondered also why you don't see more posts especially at times when there are quite a few people on.

I would like to see something similar to what they have over at autopia a click and brag section.

Anybody else think we have too many sub-sections?

I just like having a place for everything as specific as possible without going over board.

sometimes i think that most of us that have been here for awhile have gotten our product /processes down so we dont ask as many questions as when we were new .. its wintertime too . i used to post alot but now that im into hotrods more i dont post as much because no one here wants to get into engine/suspension discussions .. i still log in all the time to see whats going on .. :dnaughty oh yea my car is primered ...ha ha

I don't think so Troy, and like Scott said, it wouldn't increase the posting.

I think that a lot of times on forums, when people ask about something, they get the "do a search, it's been discussed many times" response. This is usually true, but it limits the amount of things that you have to post about. I think that a lot of people's techniques and products change over time, so it is good to have new threads on the same topics.

As far as general participation goes, if I don't feel like I can add to what has been said, or offer another solution, I usually don't post. I would like for my posting to be helpful posts, versus a bunch of nothing but "me too" posts.

The other major forum seems to have one major page to review and then you break off into the other forums if you are interested but you can easily stay only on the main page. Seems here there are too many secondary forums to get lost in.
I know this forum does the same but it doesn't seem to show as well.

+1

I plan on contributing a bit more.

I'd be on more but I don't have a computer at my house, so I'm only on while I'm at my dads :(

...But, I'm back in school this semester and I'm definitely going to need a laptop for a couple classes, so I'll be a regular again soon enough :D

I'm more of a casual weekend detailer. To be quite honest I don't really have the skills to offer any real useful information. However, the response I get when I do ask a question has been exceptional.
I think the professionalism I find on this forum is what makes Detail City such a great place.:dcrules

The "do the search" thing might be found on most forums, but I generally don't find that here. Even if the question has been asked a bazillion times, people will answer, and as you pointed out with changing product and technique fresh threads are needed.

I think that sometimes newbs might feel that if they get only 1 or 2 responses that they are either being ignored or they might be leery of only taking the advice of 1 person. I'm not talking about a 4 page thread about the benefits of a 2 bucket wash, but some agreeing by another member(s) might give a novice more of a warm & fuzzy. ;)

Look forward to your posts

Even a casual weekend warrior can make great contributions.

I think DC lost a lot of people way back when they weren't allowing people to post their work. I stopped posting as much when that happened. Then I would just stop by once in a while to check the action, and there really wasnt any. I dont really like to post just to post. I mean, if I cant really add anything, I try to avoid making myself look dumb (because I'm pretty good at that :D). My skill level has grown such that I really dont need much help with application of product and such (I'm not saying that I'm the best out there, but I know enough to use about any product that I come across now). Not only that, but my time is a little more limited now, so I can't really hit the forums as much.

I also cut way back on my visits when the whole Adam's sponsorship thing fell through. The reason for that being, not so much that I think Adams is the best, but more because Nick C is a very close personal friend of mine. Alot of things were said about him and Adams. I dont like when negative things are said about my friends.

I realize that is all water under the bridge now, and I am making my return. When I actually start doing some more detailing, then my post count will begin to climb. Here in GA, we're under a serious water ban and my cars are nasty dirty. They get ONR's about every other week at work, but I miss using my foam gun. I like ONR as a product, but alot of my enthusiasm is gone because I enjoy a conventional wash. I'm also less enthusiastic about it because my Impala, which has been my baby for so long is hurtin' for a paint job and I just cant get it to look GREAT in my eyes any more.

Troy,
I think you're doing a good job with the forum, and I like the fact that you stay active and post on people's threads. I appreciate your replies on the last detailing showcase thread that I posted.
