Zaino Z5 causing very poor results (pics)

I applied Z5 to my 3-day old 2003 F150 after a wash with dawn twice, and Zaino Claybar followed by a Zaino car wash. I just applied one coat (ZFX enabled) of Z5. Since then, I have applied Z2 many times over top of the Z5. I believe I am on layer 5 now.. it just lacks the shine that my 94 Oldsmobile had.. it was the same color, black, and Z2 was just UNREAL. But on my truck, it doesn't quite look as good..

My olds got the 3-step Meguairs treatment (Paint Cleaner, Show Car Glaze, Gold Class Wax) every weekend, until my Zaino showed up. After a dawn wash + claybar, a single coat of Z2 was just AMAZING.. never seen anything like it before.

here are the pics:

The camera didn't quite pick up all of the streaks/swirl marks, but under direct sunlight + human eye, it is as clear as day :(

I've tried washing, Gloss Enhancer, everything.. I can even rub my finger across the grain of the streak, and it still stays. :(

Any suggestions on what to do??

Get some Z7 and water in a spray bottle, spray on the streak area and wipe off with your towel. It may take one or two time, but that's what I do, and it works for me on my red SC430 with new Zaino Z5. I also rushed the removal, which aided in streaks.

Well, the thing is, I have washed it 3-4 times since I noticed the swirls.. no luck whatsoever. The optical clarity SUCKS compared to the olds w/ straight Z2 (old kind), which had neglected paint to begin with. That is the other problem i'm having.

What kinda prep-work should I do to the paint? (Polish, paint cleaner, etc) I've got $300 burning a hole in my pocket and I need to buy some detailing supplies..

DACP followed by another glaze if you wish. Some use SEPC, some use #3. Bottom line is whatever you end up with, wash the car after polishing with Dawn to remove any oils/silicones from the polish B4 ZFX/Z5. Again thin is in with Z5. I had to spray it anmd wipe again to get the streaks out, but this is a clean finish, clayed and polished.

All depends on how bad those swirls and paint defects are, but most of us has had great results with DACP as it breaks down to a fine polish later. Also pads have an important roll. A cutting pad will be needed if the paints bad, as the PC cannot generate enough heat as a rotory and it take a bit longer. Some get haze after DACP, but it can be resolved with a good glaze. I used 3M P-III MG and Menzerna FP with good results.

Look around on what others use. A lot in the forums!

Well, there are really no paint defects at all. It's a brand new vehicle.. as soon as I left the lot, I went home, washed/clayed/Zaino'd it.

It is as if Z5 is creating "pseudo" swirls.. I had the same results when I used Meguairs Scratch X on the olds...

What is DACP/SECP? #3 is something from Meguiars, but have no clue what the others are..

If the Z is causing the "pseudo" swirls as you say, then use an alcohol solution to remove the Z. If the swirls still exist after the alcohol solution application then it is not the Z but the paint.

Just because the car is new does not mean the paint is in good condition. There are countless post regarding dealerships "swirling" the paint of the brand new cars during their delivery prep.

Under certain circumstances Z can cause some smearing that looks like swirling but this is usually easily corrected using Z6.

:shocked I used iso alky and rubbed off the zaino.. dang.. still there :( so the culprit must be my ****** autozone terry towels :(

I need to order a crapload of MF towels.. :(

All the swirls are in an up-down pattern on the side panels, and a front-to-back pattern on the hood.. this is how I apply and remove my Zaino. Should I use a foam or MF applicator instead of the Zaino ones???

This sucks.. 3-weeks of owning a new vehicle and the paint looks worst than my 94 olds' paint :angry

What kind of wash mitt would be good to use? I use the autozone terry towels to wash, currently.

I'd go with Cotton Chenille or 100% natural sheepskin. Real cotton mitts are difficult to find, so sheepskin might be easier to locate. Feel inside the sheepskin mitt, it should be real leather, if it's not don't buy it because it's not the real deal. I'm pretty sure WalMart sells real sheepskins for about $6/each.

Dump the terry towels from Autozone, they are bad bad things. Get some high quality Microfibers to work with. :up Since you vehicle is black, you will want to use the 2 bucket method of washing for sure.

yeah, i've been slacking with the single-bucket.. is the Meguairs Grit Guard bucket insert a good thing? Or is it just a waste w/ 2 buckets?

Yes it's time you ditch thoses towels and get some quality towels from Pakshak and get at least one Autopia's CBT and or DFTowel as a finish buff/QD towel.

The Pakshak MF towels are top notch! And the CBT or DFTowel is sooo soft!

Use the cotton applicator with Zaino, spray with Z6 prior and Z away!

If you paint is that F'd up, time to remove the damage! Get some DACP and some finish glaze and polish the snot out of it with your PC. If you need a PC, Costaltool is best place to get one cheap! Then, you could go to CMA and order pads. Get a yellow cut pad, an orange "power" pad, a white polish pad and a grey finish pad.

Take you time, check your work and you'll be fine!

$300 burning a hole in your pocket, and you bought AutoZone towels?

I'd try SFP or #9 before stepping up to DACP. I've never used Zaino, but foam pads are great applicators. I'd also go with a sheepskin mitt and two buckets. That Meguiar's bucket insert seems interesting, but I don't ever drop my mitt into the bucket, so it never sits on the bottom anyway. Good luck!

Actually, Lowes is the cheapest I've been able to find it. $105 including the big buffing pad thingy and the velcro backing plate.
