i have a simple green thread going, and i have been doing some investigating. i have come to realize that woolite can be used for carpets, dashboards, leather, i mean what else can you use it for, does it have limits ?

as long as it is diluted correctly it seems like it has no boundaries :nixweiss

I use it on everything on the interior. Plastic, vinyl, leather, fabric, carpet, you name it. If the vinyl or leather is really dirty, I bust out TOL Deep Down. But Woolite and water is a pretty stout cleaner for the interior. Obviously you shouldn't use it on glass, chrome, or trim. I think it does have limits strength-wise. You won't be able to get out something like a coffee stain out of carpet with it. Really dirty leather will humble it too, but overall, it's a great all purpose interior cleaner.

I used it to remove 2 year old diet coke stain from carpet in a recent detail. Diluted 1:7

Hey I've been reading a few places now on autopia that a lot of guys use "woolite". Just to clarify, you're using the laundry detergent that you can buy anywhere, correct? If so, what's a good dilution for mild interior cleaning? thanks

It is the regular woolite that can be found at any local Wal-Mart. 1:8 or 1:10 are some pretty good dilution ratios. I use 1:10 to clean leather and dash. I use 1:8 or stroger on carpet stains. Be sure to remove all the woolite mixture from the carpet.

is it me or does the woolite create suds ?? i use a carpet solution and then add a little bit of woolite for interiors, comes out nice

i'm going to try the woolite for the das hand stuff. my parents need some good interior cleanings, since i have taken care of the paint so far :waxing:

I use a 1:6 dilution on everything - works great for me. That even took out small oil/grease stains (finger marks) from (almost) white velour style trim - left by the chap manhandling my car onto a towtruck after the clutch went.

I use it on everything as well. My only complaint is that it can be a bit "soapy" when dilluted a little too strong. I found that water and woolite 6:1 is a little too much woolite.

I've used Woolite in the past but I now use Meguiars Interior Detailer as my 'goto' spray. Even at 10:1, Woolite was too 'soapy' for me. After a good interior detail, my MF towels just felt greasy and so did my hands. I also found out that Woolite isn't too good on your lungs :lol. I recycled an empty Megs QD bottle/sprayer and put Woolite at 10:1 in it for general cleaning. The sprayer atomizes the mixture so finely that it gets airborne and inhaled...not good..The Woolite stays in my 'squirt' bottles now :)

I use the 10:1 mixture for general cleaning around the house. It works well on carpet, but unless you 'rinse' it well, the soapyness will attract dirt to the area. It cleans the walls pretty good where my cat likes to 'love' the corners, but it can affect the sheen on flat paint.

So, in a nutshell, I use Woolite in a pinch, but if I have a purpose-formulated cleaner it usually does a much better job. The Woolite gets the most use by my better half for hand-washing her delicates, which is what it was designed for anyway. :nixweiss

Now, Simple Green...that stuff is just amazing. I'll go find your other thread and yammer on in there, too :)

If you get a chance, put the Woolite mixture in a spray bottle. A couple of sprays on to a MF and then wipe. I find that technique removes any potential for greasiness. If you do find any surface is left greasy then wipe over with a MF slightly dampened with plain water.
