WGDG Sealant 3.0 - Review

So, last weekend I tried my new BF Wet Diamond and today I got to try one of my new "product toys" that I obtained from Biolink in a trade.

Biolink sent me some Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0 in a 2oz sample. I have heard many good things about this product so I was anxious to try it. I used it on my 2008 White IS350. I didn't get a chance to take pics tonight, but I'll get some tomorrow and add them to this thread.

I'm going to write this review two ways. First, I'll talk about the product itself, followed by a comparison to others I've tried.

The first noticeable thing about the product is that it REALLY separates from itself while in the container. Biolink was SMART enough to know he was sending this stuff to a dolt so wrote "SHAKE WELL" in big letters on the container.

It has a "chemical" smell, which I kind of prefer (as I'm not a fan of the delicious smelling products because I think they could be trouble around small kids). It's yellowish in color and has a typical liquid consistency, similar to both BF Wet Diamond and NXT 2.0.

My process included the following:

Foam Car with DP Xtreme Foam Shampoo + GC wash (two bucket method), third bucket also for wheels.

Clay - Riccardo Clay (yellow) - ONR diluted to QD strength.

M80 as a paint cleaner over entire car with 8006 pad.

ISA wipedown

Apply WGDG 3.0 by hand with brand new foam applicator. Let dry for about 30 minutes (give or take). Remove with Eurow Shag MF towels.

The car is defect free and I've used a lot of products on this bad boy, so I have a lot to compare it to. Here is the break down...

Application

Putting this stuff on was a breeze. Pretty easy to get on thin and it had a very slight yellowish tint when it hazed which made it easy to identify against my white paint. It may not even be yellowish, maybe "off white" is a better term.

I covered the entire car in a matter of minutes. As far as putting it on, I would rate it right up there with my favorites for easy of application (Wet Diamond, NXT 2.0, 845).

Removal

Removal was pretty easy, but NOT quite as easy as both Wet Diamond and NXT 2.0. It also takes longer to dry then Wet Diamond. One of the things I really liked about Wet Diamond, which I did not write in my review, is that it seems to dry VERY quickly.

Feel

Amazing. Again, I'm not sure it's slicker than Wet Diamond, but it's close. I actually find 3.0 very similar to NXT 2.0. If Wet Diamond is a 10 on the slickness scale, this product is a 9.90 and NXT 2.0 might be a 9.75.

Price

I didn't buy it, but I did a quick online search and think it retails for about $39.99 (might be cheaper if you look harder buy I only checked one online vendor). In any event, it is about $10 more than Wet Diamond and about $25 more than NXT 2.0.

The Look

This is obviously the most subjective criteria, so take what I write here with a grain of salt...

To me, this was one of the best looking LSP's that has ever touched my IS. Without doubt it BLOWS away 476s and I think it beats NXT 2.0 (which has now gotten beaten twice this week - it was my previous "go to" LSP).

However, I then compared the flakes on the Lex to the flakes on the CR-V (done last week with Wet Diamond) and I think if I had a gun to my head, I'd give an ever so slight edge to Wet Diamond with just a bit more "pop".

Don't get me wrong, both are amazing and probably no noticeable difference to 99.9% of the world (and maybe not even to me), but I just can't get over how good the CR-V looks. (Keep in mind, my impressions were formed even though the LSP hasn't fully cured).

Verdict

Another great LSP!!! I would recommend it to anyone, although not as the best sealant out there.

I would probably put it third on my list behind Wet Diamond (1st) and NXT 2.0 (2nd) for the following reasons:

1. It's a tad tougher to remove than both Wet Diamond and NXT.

2. It's a bit more expensive than WD and a lot more than NXT 2.0 and I'm not sure the advantages it give over NXT are worth the price.

3. It's possible that it looks as good as Wet Diamond but not better. They are fairly similar in a lot of ways.

Overall, you can't go wrong with this product. I can go over the litany of LSP's I've tried and it definitely has a spot in my top 3. I've got two more LSPs to test and I'm running out of cars (S100 and FMJ). I think I'll save the FMJ for a Black Audi A8 I've been meaning to detail. S100 for a silver lexus. We'll see.

Stay tuned for the pics tomorrow.

Great review User Name, and very similar to finding as well. Your reviews might be the best unbiased I have never seen, and scientificaly the most accurate.

While you have Blackfire ahead, despite the lower initial cost, I think you will find that as time goes by, Blackfire is going to pull ahead by a signifcant and noticable margin, keep us updated!!!!

***photo update***

Here are the pics of the IS, after completion with Wolfgang Deep Gloss 3.0. I was looking at the pics and to be fair to the LSP, I don't think the pictures do the product justice. I'd say the car looks much better in person.

Gratuitous badging shot (for Termingator). ;)

Some reflection shots and some "bright white shots" unfortunately the pics do not show the flakes popping. Lexus white on this car is a tri-color white with a nice flake in it, which I can't seem to get in the pics.

Awesome. Nice work, the car looks great. Another great write up. BTW, thanks for the Blackfire sample. I really enjoyed it. :D

I'm glad but after reading your write up (and how good I now expect FMJ to be) I feel like the Poorboy's EX-P I sent you is going to be a BIG disappointment. Unfortunately, it just does not measure up.

Awesome review and write-up UN, like on how your IS came out in your pictures and your finders also.

Finally! Awesome job! I've also used WG once. Loved the slickness. Good look too.

The rims look great. Do you have a hard time keeping them clean? Mine dusts like there's tomorrow.:cursing:

Thanks.

I'll let you in a little secret re: brake dust. I had a HUGE problem and there was no keeping them clean. I tried Poorboys Wheel Sealant, NXT 2.0, EX-P, 476s and nothing really helped that much, but then I stumbled upon this gem...

http://my.is/forums/attachments/f126/19379d1223393162-six-month-5000-mile-service-l-sb-0121-08.pdf (hope that link works).

Lexus has a TSIB for the brake pads on all 2006-2009 models. If you go into your dealership and you have LESS than 25k miles, Lexus will replace the stock pads with a ceramic pad FOR FREE. No cost on parts or labor. FREE, FREE, FREE!!!

The result is a virtually dust free pad with NO residual effect on braking. They are less grippy in feel, but stopping distance is unchanged. If your car fits the bill, bring the TSIB into Lexus with you and get it done, it's worth it.

I've heard of some people getting different brakes because they complained a great deal. I didn't know there was a service bulletin out on it. I'll be making my appointment real soon!:notworthy:

Just be forwarned, the dealership is NOT anxious to do the work and if you do it, make sure you have the bulletin in hand.

Nice review UN! Thanks for sharing! :)

DGPS 3.0 is one of my most used sealants as I find it very easy to use. I also find it to be similar to NXT in terms of use but I think it is more user friendly when it comes to streaking...NXT tends to be more temperamental IMO. I also find it to be one of the slickest sealants that I've tried.

Thanks Rasky.

Have you tried Blackfire Wet Diamond yet? If not, I think you should give it a try.

Haven't tried it yet...maybe I'll add it to my next order. ;)

FYI. I did find the DGPS to give my red TSX a sort of plastic look to it. Nuba's just seems to be much better on my cars color. ;)
