Voting privileges at DC?

The Rainmaker
First off, I realize that DC is not a democracy, but.....
If the moderators receive enough complaints about a member/members, is it possible that someone that is a chronic complainer and troublemaker could be removed from the site? You know like :chop

Charles

It would be too easy to rig something like that. It was discussed on Autopia a few years ago when I was a mod over there and there were some good points brought up to support doing it that way as well as to not do it. I think we ended up going to a 'three strikes and you are out' sort of policy. It just required more support from the admin to enforce than we were getting at the time.... Somehow I don't think it would take too much convincing to get Fuzzy to drop the axe on someone.

If it was done via PM's, the mod's would know if it was just one or two people with a vendetta towards someone. I think it should take more than three strikes, but I'll bet you would get dozens, maybe hundreds.
I think it could be made to work.

I think that's something that DC should think about doing. Since I came aboard around 6 months ago I've become addicted to this forum, but IMO it does get old having to read some of the critzim that is posted. There is nothing wrong with a debate over a product or procudure, but criticzeing each other is too much IMO. As long we all have diffrent opions there will be a debate, and thats where it should stop. I come to this forum to get information or to learn something new, and even maybe share something that I learned with others. If someone is using a product that you think is not safe for whatever reason post it, and if they don't want to stop thats their problem. Everyone has their own way of doing things, but places like DC make it possible to learn more, so want we all show a little more respect for each other and the powers of DC.

:censored: Must.... resist.... temptation.... to.... bash.... D..... aaaaaaaahhhh!!

OK, now that that's out of my system:

I think this is not an all bad idea. I have seen some forums in the past where there was a "member rating" system -- similar to the member feedback here, but it would be tracked as a numeric value. If a member's "rating" went below a certain number, they got a time out for a short time. When they came back, if it fell more again they'd get a bit longer time-out, and so on. Obviously if people gave positive ratings to a member, it would take them longer to get a time-out, but you get the basic idea.

The only potential problem I could see with this is people abusing the system just to mess with people. I'd like to hope, though, that DC's membership is more mature than to stoop to that.

I say bring em on. I'm tired of randomly axing people. I'd like to give my :chop some purpose. Line em up and I'll hack them down. The problem has always been in people not reporting the issues. They whine and cry in the thread, but does anybody ever PM me or Dwayne to let us know there is an issue? Very very very very very rarely. Did I mention it is a rare occurance? Well it is. If people would voice their concerns then it would be easier to make this a community where people knew their opinions are respected. I can't respect your opinions when they are either dumb or if they aren't expressed. :D j/k ;) :bigups

Let us (myself or Dwayne) know who needs to go and if it is obvious that someone is ruining the experience for everybody else then they will be dealt with on an administrative level. I'm not going to let one :ass who likes to pee in the pool ruin it for everybody else. :rockon

I would think the Fuzz already knows where the problem lies ,and if things continue changes will have to made . There is no reason for some of the things people say to other with no reason.

The Fuzz does know where the problems lie and I've had to chase those down one at a time as I see them. Members who spend more time here and are affected the most could really help me out by pointing me in the right direction sometimes.

This isn't to say that if you PM me that someone hurt your feelers that they will get banned. That isn't what I'm trying to say. I'm just trying to say that if multiple people are telling me about problems then I can do something about it.

Don't forget to use the reputation button on members who offend you or impress you. Also don't forget to use the report button when you want to get my attention.

:D You are joking, right?
If we were more mature than to stoop to that, nothing would be needed.:)
The only real drawback I see is the extra load it would put on the moderators.
Since the votes would have to go through the mods, I don't see just how anyone could abuse it. The same person voting against the same member constantly would be obvious and wouldn't carry much weight in the decision making process.

Hey, a discussion without an argument. (Yet:))

I think it's a ridiculous idea. If somebody is a big enough problem than Fuzz or Dwayne would know. If they don't notice than a quick PM or hit the report button would bring it to their attention. I don't see the need for a mob to gang up on some one that doesn't behave in a manor that you think they should. If people are so desperate to cast out somebody because they are not part of the "in" crowd than apply to the next Survivor show and become one of the fools on that show. You can ban someone every week and walk around with a hard on feeling like the man. This is DC not high school.

:w00t:

I'm a little surprised to see this type of suggestion from you, Charles, but it seems that I am seeing posts from you complaining about threads needing to be shut down. Man, if I complained about every thread that had nonsensical (for a w-i-d-e variety of reasons) posts in it, and voting that poster off the island.... We might have to rename the site Detail Neighborhood rather than Detail City ;)

I know you're old enough to know better, but a recommendation anyway. Sign off, walk away, take a deep breath, log back in and enjoy yourself. I know I have to remind myself many days to take that very series of actions. Hey things have progressed, I know we both remember when we had to get up from our seat to change the channel :)

I'm not quite sure what you are referring to here, but you guys overall assessment could be right.
It just seems that an awful lot of threads become nothing but arguments and usually involving the same people.
I was told recently that I take things too personally and evidently more than one person feels that way. That's just the way I am and I guess I need to just shut up and let things go their merry way.
Maybe Fuzz can just close the thread and figure it was another of my bad ideas.
Not the first and most certainly not the last.:)

Charles

I had the same idea Charles. I felt like people were getting into pissing contests (the yellow snow, it was a stretch).
It seems like some are here to convert people. I don't get it.
