What's next, a VW Bug limo?

"The as-yet-unnamed pick-up will be based on the '06 G-Class SUV -- and feature a five-passenger, crew cab bodystyle with four full-size doors and a short bed out back that can be used to haul stuff home, just like any other contractor special. But the Benz truck will feature decidedly uptown features and amenities"

I only remember it exisiting because for one of my friends 21st birthdays we wanted to take a crazy limo out to the bars and someone mentioned a VW Bug limo a local limo place has; the thought behind the idea was since girls love Beetles and girls love limos so why not get the best of both worlds and see what happens. In the end we ended up opting for 2 stretch Mini Coopers, one with a jacuzzi in the back.

It should be noted that the Mercedes G wagon is one of the most capable off roading vehicles out there, short of the Unimog. Don't know about the new G's, but older G's are amazing.

Danowatt, Yes - i agree - the orignal G wagon was very highly regarded for it's off road capability. Certainly here in europe it was rated as highly as strictly off road vehicles such as the uni-mog and Land-rovers 'defender' range. The defenders are, of course, used by the British and other armed forces around the world as an off-road vehicle.

And to think the Baja started this off again and now Subaru is killing the platform

Nothing can be as bad as the Honda Ridgeline.

Yep, ugly as sin but if the sales keep going like they are it WILL be a true bargain at the prices one will be able to negotiate. It's a well equipped truck for someone that doesn't need a heavy duty truck.

Next thing you know, there'll be a Porsche SUV. A Porsche! Oh wait, they have that already. Now I remember--I cried that day... :(

Nothing surprises me anymore...

And there's Cadillac, Lincoln, and "Saab". Ugh.

I think the Ridgeline is GREAT! It has more functional ammentities than an Escalade EXT, much better gas mileage, much cheaper, and I think it rivals its looks. Maybe its me, but I'd say a whopping 15% of the population in the NorthEast truly use their trucks and SUV's what they are made for.

Would you bring this thing offroad?

For me, I think the Ridgeline is Honda's view of a suburban SUV...good looks, good gas mileage and driveability, and a pretty price tag. If I had the money for a second vehicle (I'm a car guy), that would be my choice.

SUV is one thing we are talking truckness here..

Well rummors are the subaru think tank will phase out the baja in 06 and then replace it in 2010

Wow, I am glad you posted that picture of the H2 Sean, that completely redefines the word hideous. It may honestly be the ugliest vehicle that I have ever seen. Between driving that and an 88' Corsica with rust holes and mismatched door panels I think the Corsica would be less embarassing.

H2= small-penis-mobile. Strictly a status vehicle with limited off road capabilities (but I may be biased... Jeep guys hate H2 guys :p )

The Ridgeline wouldn't be so bad if they gave it some torque worth towing with. Really, 250 lb. ft. of torque is laughable for a 'truck'.

And Benz should start trying to improve their exisiting cars before making new, even uglier ones.

..and they tested it head up with a similarly equipped F150 (V8 equipped Ford) and a trailer with the same weight and the Ridgeline stayed right with the F150. Good gearing and the 5 speed auto pay dividends.

It also goes back to the "people don't use it what its made for" topic. Honestly, I don't have anything to tow. From time to time I get furniture with my girlfriend in which usually fits in either of our 2 doors.

I find it a nice option to the high dollar, gas guzzling status symbols out there.

I'm with PC in that Mercedes has built some awesome HD trucks- but I believe most were for commercial and military use.

I don't know much about the new G-Class, but look at the M-Class (Pre 2006 model). Pieces of the interior were so poorly designed, and the car had really bad customer satisfaction. Several of our friends own[ed] them. The friggen cupholder is built to block the air vent. :nixweiss How can a mocha latte stay warm in front of the AC?
