Tips on detailing white cars?

I'm a big fan of Griot's clay. It's hands-down the best clay I've ever worked with. I just ordered a few new clay bars and 2 gallons of SpeedShine. UPS scheduled delivery: tomorrow! :)

I'll have to try the Best of Show wax...

Hey guys..

I remember at parties in college where people drew in decorations on the walls using clear liquid laundry detergent... You couldnt see it under normal lighting, but they'd dim the lights and turn on a blacklight, which would light up what was drawn. Very neat.

I'm wondering if polish or wax would light up in a similar way to laundry detergent under a black light? Someone with access to one who also has a white car might want to experiment with this.. I'd be curious about the results.

NY KID- Run a quick search on "Griot*" and you'll find more opinions than you'll want to read through! I myself am a BIG Griot's fan, but I DON'T like the BOS wax and I think you can do better than his polishes and MF towels. You think your car looks good NOW (and I bet it DOES)... you REALLY won't believe it when you try some of the other products out there!

Drying: Waffle-weave MF's from Ian at MicrofiberTech

Polish/wax removal: Plush MF's from Steve at YoSteve

raymond_ho2002- Now THERE'S a thought! I'll give it a try next time I'm waxing something. Now that you've mentioned it, I'd think it WOULD show up, but we'll see.

Darn, this is probably going to work and I'm going to have to purchase a black light to detail the Cobra! My wife and neighbors are going to think I'm nuts. But a psychadelic garage would be cool. :o

I wonder if they make 8' long florescent black light bulds for my garage light fixtures?

That is an awesome idea. One that I am totally going to try. I'm guessing that its the phosphorus in the laundry detergent that is showing up in the black light though. Not much phos in SG I'd wager.

I thought that's what caused it. I thought today's laundry detergents were supposed to be phosphate free though?

Accumulater- You would recommend the weave over the big blue and gray auto towels? The plush MF's from yosteve look great! I will be ordering them today. So far the griots have worked very good for me. I did my everyday car last week, and IMO I have never seen a wax and polish work so well. I thought I was on top of the detailing thing before I found this site. The part I liked about the griots was I only applied 1 coat of polish and 1 of wax. The car has even stayed clean through the rain. What are you using on your car? I'd like to look into it. A friend of mine has a '01 vette uses zanio, I showed him my car and he could not believe how good it looked. Thanks for the info :xyxthumbs
