Something I was told by Sal Zaino doesn't make sense to me....

Ok, so one time I was on the phone with Sal, and he told me that the color of my car (dark polo green) can actually get hotter in the sun than black. This doesn't make sense to me because black absorbs more. What do you guys think about this? Has anyone ever done a test on a dark green car vs. a black car?

A while back, GeekySteve tested the temperatures of various colors while being exposed to direct sunlight. The results of his testing were in line with what Sal told you. For some reason, the non-metallic polo/forrest green paint surface reached higher temperatures than the non-metallic black paint surface.

This is 100% true and well known with car painters, among others. I've tested this on cars. Shoud've taken pics, I guess. I did post a pic once of rain drop temps from my previous car which was dark green. The water temp was almost 140*F after 15 mins which, as we all know, is approx the evaporation point of car wax.

All I know is whatever sal says I believe.SAL is one smart cookie.Call him up and he will explain it to you

Thanks guys, I appreciate it.

I wasn't calling BS or anything, but I told my friend that, and he didn't believe it, and thought Sal was full of it

So now I can prove it to him. :)

Yeah, what Sal said is true. A long time ago someone asked Ron K. (maybe it was me) which colour got the hottest. He also said dark green is the hottest colour, way ahead of black.

Bill.

if i had to guess at a reason i'd say that a clean black car is more reflective than a green one. but that's just me making stuff up.
