Quiz time kiddos-the response that works best gets a percent of the profit I get off this job...:p

What Scottwax said would be one good way to go if removing the carpet and giving it a through cleaning is out of the question. For the cost of new carpets today, I would just order a new one and install it.

if i was faced with something like that in which i have been but not recently . . . .

i would do something like get a bucket of hot water if possible and a stiff bristle brush . . . . pre soak the area with a little apc and folex if you got it . . . . . scrub and wet dry vac the area.

Continue doing so rinsing the brush out in the hot water and after most of it is gone then get a some terry towels and blot the area dry.

Hope that helps.

First things first. Do not get them wet right away. If you do your only gonna spread the problem. What I mean is if you put water to them the water will move outside the area creating mud and the stain will spread. First use a brush and dry scrub it. You want to loosen as much of the dirt as possible. Compressed air works great. SHop vac as much as possible. You should notice a huge difference at this point. Next you hot water and some degreaser and scrub it. Then extract it.

I agree completely...throw them out....looks like coffee and coffee is acid. Arent people P-GS! At least some of them. I charge almost 20 percent more for a car that looks like this....just on principle alone. 98 percent of the time the client understands and agrees the car is a PIG! It almost always represents positive revenue. Spring is coming!!!!!

Lets say it is coffee or tea. Milk products need to be removed from the vehicle. I still say throw them out. Just my take. Milk is a bear and most times if people have a DAIRY spill and they have bad odors, the smell is in the JUTE, soaked into the backing of the carpet and the bacteria grow. I had a Benz like that last year. The smell would knock you out. So it depends on HOW BAD it is. The women put out a grand for a new carpet. Fed her kid till, she was five in the back seat. The kid would fall asleep and the bottle would drop. Seen it all more than 1000 times. The perfect storm. The smell always came back and she brought it to many detailers with high end extractors. I usually try to steer clear of thes problems telling the client I will be glad to do the exterior. Avoiding any melee. I dont take on DAIRY any more. I send them down the road. Like I said ....I am on the downside, that entails some picking and choosing.http://autopia.org/forum/images/smilies/washwax.gif

For certain throw the mats out ...the carpet can be saved. I do this portion with any good cleaner, a good scrub brush and any strong wet vac. Thats all you need here. This carpet will come 90 to 95 percent clean if I do it. I am sure anyone here could accomplish the same job. The car may be old and this case does not look to extreme-

Perhaps 80 percent clean...I went back for a second look. People cant expect to get acids out. It eats the fibers and the carpet is MUTE! It turns a GOLD color from almost any detergent. There is always the old spray paint for carpets. I dont get involved, but...I know it exists. Its big business for the dealers.

That may be 80-90% savable, like mine were, but I doubt they will be like new again. I just re-dyed my carpets (mine had every gross thing possible though.)

If they want new carpet, then buy them some.

But that looks easy to clean. Vacuum, coffee-tannin remover, quality pre-treat, extraction, pre-treat and final extraction.

You can pull the carpet in that car in less than a hour easy more like 30 min hang it over a saw horse spray with degreaser and water scrub let sit 10 min pressure wash clean. spray with fabric softner let sit 10 min rinse very lightly take a ice scraper to remove the rest of water put fan in front of carpet and behind also when dry put back in.This can be done in about 3 hours the backing of the carpet will not get that wet as long as u hang the carpet up or over a saw horse when u clean.

I just noticed that is a ford ranger u can pull that carpet in about 15-20 min. never ever pour water out of a bucket on the carpet as one detailer said you will soak through to the backing then water will get traped that were your smells would come into play. You have all ready removed the side pieces that hold down the carpet to the door you r half way there pull that carpet

If replacing it is out of the question removal is the best...

Then as barry said get as much of it out dry before introducing water, compressed air, dry brushes and a shop vac are your friend.

Then pressure wash it and once majority of dirt is out then treat the stains accordingly based on the nature of stain and then extract....
