how long does the process usually take?

the way i am figuring it it should go something like this:

wash area - 5 minutes

laydown bondo (fill in small dent) - 20 min

lay down primer - 20

apply three coats of paint - 1.5 hours (30 min for each layer)

let dry for a couple hours

sand area with 2500 grit - 3000 grit steps - 10 min

compound sanding marks - 20 min

polish area - 5 min

leave area unwaxed for a month

so all in all it should take about 5 hours??? or am i missing something and its going to take longer???

this will be my first time doing it

I think your times are definitely well estimated, now if you would of asked if it was going to turn out "like" new using your outlined process, I may have a different answer.

ok what should the process be...

this is going to be over two days as I dont have the time or the patience to sit there at his place to wait for it to dry...

oh and its a fix it if you can, if not its getting repainted anyway from a body shop...

i asked him to let me have a crack at it before he paints it....this one is a freebie

I would think you would want to sand and prep the area before bondo, but like you said, fix it if you can and see, nothing to lose really. Not to mention, it would be good experience. Good luck, and for free, good man.

that scratch will need body work and not touch up.

the scratch look more like it went through the metal and no touch will be able to fill in that indentation.

since you already did some touch up and someone will fix it if it need be, play with it and see how the out come will look like.

it is the best time to practice those wet sanding tech.
