Scratch Removal Pics

Some kid with a stick scratched my parents CR-V pretty bad. So I took it out for him. Process was 2 passes of Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover 3.0 using a UDM by PC (PC 7424) and a 5.5" LC CCS Orange Pad.

Was topped with Collinite 476, as this car is not that well taken care of (notice the swirls in pic 1) and sent on it's way.

Hm.. i guess i'm not up with the terms but i always thought UDM was always stronger than the Pc. Anyways, that's great, I would usually tell people to fill in the scratch first, wetsand, and then buff it out. I wonder if you take off MORE clear coat from what you did compared to just sanding and polishing.

As BigJim mentioned they used to be when they first came out. The original UDM (model 1000) had a 4.2 amp motor vs the PC's 3.7 amp. The UDM was scheduled for some changes that would make it version 2.0, but somewhere that all got dropped and it just became a rebadged PC 7424, hence the current PN#: UDM-1000-PC (Ultimate Detailing Machine by Porter Cable).

bumoftheday: nice save, I'll bet that made your parents happy. Even when someone doesn't take autopian level care of their car they hate to see a big scratch like that.

My parents were happy. It used to be my mom's car, but my dad took it and my mom got the new Ridgeline, so they both kind of feel like the car is (still) there's.

What's annoying is that I did a complete correction(well 95%) on the car for mother's day along with 3 coats of Z-2. You can see the level of swirls in the first pic and that's all over the car.

My dad said I would've been proud on his wash setup, he bought a nice wash mitt and drying towel, and proceeded to say he used dish soap. I gave him a little lecture and then showed him how to do it right, but I have very low expectation for the car the next time I see it.

I would have bet money that the 7424 could not have gotten that out, but I guess I'm wrong.

Nice job on the removal.

Luckily it had a soft clear and the scratch was not very deep. There was one small spot near the rear door that still had a small (not visible to anyone with halogens) scratch left, but it was blended well. It was too deep for me to comfortably remove.
