Review: Rupes Bigfoot Nano iBrid Polisher

I`ve been using my long neck for a while now.. love it

its a invaluable tool once you start to use it.

fantastic review. thanks for all the time it took to make that review

I haven`t used the brushes yet but after your review and the pics, I definitely need to give it a shot.

Another awesome review, Marc! Love all the pictures too!

I`ve used mine a bit more now, especially on that Porsche last weekend and she`s got pretty hot with some extended use. I was using 2" pads though on the 12mm mode but it was getting uncomfortable at times. I do also notice a drop in power after a few minutes of battery use and my biggest grip would be the trigger, which IMO really needs to be variable speed and I agree the locking mechanism would be very welcome. I think its an awesome tool and I love it more an more after each use but other than the benefit of it being cordless I feel their pneumatic tools are more compact and have better control with the variable speed trigger. I really like not having to deal with a cord or air hose though and I can`t stand listening to a compressor run while I`m working. :)

good. I have the heat issues as well. glad that is an issue and not just my tool

Great review. I will say that the tool has come in handy on my uncles 02 vette with all the small intricate areas. Great tool.

Thanks so much for the kind words, Mike! It is indeed an amazing tool.

This is such an in-depth review!! GREAT JOB MARK!!!

Thanks a lot Yulius!

Fantastic review, Marc!

Thank you Mike!

Very in depth, great job! Hopefully mine ships soon!

Thanks a lot, cf2121!

When I saw that you wrote a review, I knew I was in for a treat! Great in-depth review Marc! I like your take on the short neck v.s. long neck, and I too would love a corded version of this polisher.

Thank you so much Ray! I sincerely appreciate it.

Thank you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome Ron! Hope you enjoyed it.

Great review. Really went into some massive detail. Thank you

Thanks a lot JustJesus!

Outstanding review. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much Pat!

Wow, I`m sure your pictures go into more detail than the owner`s manual. Great review on a product I`ve been drooling for. GREAT shot to include the 911 - those slats on the spoiler are a huge pain.

Thanks a lot for the compliments WaxAddict!

Take the plunge man. You`ll love it.

Awesome review, so detailed and hit many great points I`ve wondered about yet hadn`t seen anyone mention that in can remember. I too would be very interested in a version where it`d just be a permanently corded machine with the rotary/random settings ,pads and that`s it. That would probably sell more than the current version available. Not everyone needs the carrying case, products, brushes and batteries right away.

Thank you so much Migue!!! Glad you agree to some of my suggestions.

Great in depth review Marc,
I`m sold once they release a Corded version with a telescopic neck.

Thank you Shawn!

Telescoping? LOL! I`m happy with the short neck.

Good review! Good tool too, but priced too high I think.

Thank you JBM. I agree but definitely worth it.

Ray is this review worthy of making it onto the Autopia facebook page?

Thanks for suggesting this Mike!!! WOOT!

It is and will be :) we just have stuff already scheduled for the immediate future.

Can`t wait to see this up there Ray! Thanks!!

Awesome review!

I wonder if the short neck has more torque. If you factor in drivetrain distance lost theoretically the short neck should lose less power to the pad.

Can`t imagine a review being put together in content, pictures and overall exposure any better than this thread. Thank you very much. Makes me wish that Ron would send me his.

I thought that the Nano comes with an AC Adapter to be used plugged into the wall?

Like what Mike said, it does.

We were talking about a version of the Nano that has a permanent cord attached to it therefore removing the batteries/charger from the kit.

Thank you so much The Driver!! Hmmm. I don`t think there`ll be a difference in power output. The difference is just the shaft length. From my understanding, drivetrain losses happen in the gearing.. But I`m not a mechanical engineer so I`m not sure.

Thank you so much for the amazing compliment GearHead_1! I`m glad you enjoyed the review.

That was one of the best reviews I have ever read. I believe you have talked me into getting the Nano short neck. I think I will get more use out of the short neck version. Looks like it is balanced more than the long neck version and should be easier to control. Time to cash in my Autopia points and gift certificates!

that was great review - thanks

Thank you johnboy! Glad to hear you enjoyed the review.

Thanks a lot for that compliment rlmccarty2000! I appreciate it.

For my use, I think I`ll be happy with the short neck and I`m glad I picked it.

The short neck being easier to control is just my opinion as I have not used the long neck version... I had a few times where the foam pad would tilt and I had to adjust my technique to keep the foam pad flat. As I said in my review, I think this is an unintentional torquing motion resulting from the force of your hand/thumb depressing the power trigger button.

What does a person do when he can`t remove an extremely tight a$$ bolt? He increases his torque by increasing the length of his rachet either by changing to a longer breaker bar or adding a pipe to the short rachet. The result is increased leverage.

Here`s a good illustration for those who like to see an equation:

Torque.png

As you can see, the torque is directly proportional to the distance between the pivot point (foam pad in this case) and where you`re applying the force (power trigger and thumb in this case). So the long neck version of the Nano increases the distance between the two points resulting in more torque.

A person may say he will never tilt the foam pad while polishing. Trust me, it`s easier said than done LOL!

Or, get a torch (add heat) to soften and/or expand the metal so less force/torque is needed.

But, most will agree heat is detrimental in polishing paint.

...Unless your the guy that thinks you can get paint hot and "re-flow" it with your rotary and 8" wool pad.

Great review!

Alright Marc you got a Facebook feature AND a forum sticky on the RUPES forum for this review. That counts for 406 points in my book :) PM me your email address and I`ll add them to your account.
