Remote start systems?

This is one area where you americans are paying much more than we do in Canada.

(Usually the other way around)

We get remote starters for as low as $70.00 and 2 way starters from as low as $179.00.

I installed one on my fathers car nearly 10 years ago for $70.00 and it's still going strong.

Canadian Tire

There are units specifically designed for manual transmission equipped cars.

The mode of operation is as follows.

When you park the car you engage the handbrake and leave the car running in neutral. You then press the remote start button while the car is still running.

You remove the key from the ignition and the car will continue to run.

Everyone exits the vehicle and closes the doors.

The engine is still running at this time.

You then press the start button on the remote once again and this shuts the motor off and puts the remote starter in ready mode.

This sequence ensures that the vehicle was left in neutral when the car was parked.

If anyone returns and opens a door for any reason the lights will flash and the auto start sequence is deactivated.

Just an FYI, not sure if anyone mentioned this:

My DEI (came with my car) remote start works great but I was not up to speed on how they work and assumed, wow, push the button, warm up the car, get in and go.

That's EXACTLY how my Python works--w/1 exception: I have to put the key in the ignition and turn it before I press the brake. I do NOT have to turn off the engine and then start it with the key.

Maybe there's something wrong w/your install?

:secret(read post 18-20)

& F.Y.I. Python is made by DEI (check the back of your remote)

Had a Clifford system in my 99 Maxima for many years. The Intelliguard IV with remote start module. Had the installer bury the key behind the dash. I like DEI products and highly recommend them.

I know that--that's why I suggested that maybe something was wrong with the install.

you could always modify the column and make it push button start. then it will be remote start and go. but you will be in deep **** if anything happens to the column.

i did that 12 years ago with a custom truck. remote everything:

start

stop

air bags in back

hydros in front

rear bed cover

each window up/down

air/heater

wipers

stereo

lights

and more...

but i was the installer. when i took it to the dealer they didnt even know i had installed anything as i ran all the wires through factory looms and took out the dash completely to hide wires
