Premium Detailed white 2002 Mazda Tribute (Interior)!!!

Garry Dean

Garry Dean Quality!
Yeah, this is what I had the displeasure (is that a word?) of detailing today. A white 2002 Mazda Tribute with just over 75k miles on the clock. The owner is a very heavy smoker and, well, just didn’t care about the interior of his truck (obviously!). He told me it had never been cleaned since he bought it new in 2001. He was having it cleaned up to give it to his son. He was just looking for clean so that’s just what I gave him! This is one of only a few details that I actually broke out the rubber gloves for, yuck! I was going to set off an odor bomb before I hit the road, but the owner told me it would be a waste because his son would just jump in and light one up as he’s a smoker too.

Exterior:
Wash with Dawn
Clay with Pinnacle Poly Clay 2 and ONR diluted as lube
Waxed with OPT Car Wax
Tires were dressed with Meguiars Hyper Dressing diluted 4:1

Interior:
Vacuumed with Rigid portable vac
All panels and leather were scrubbed with Meguiars APC+
Windows were cleaned with ONR diluted as clay lube
Carpets and mats were cleaned with Purple Power full strength
Carpets and mats were extracted with Snap on (Mytee) extractor

Here goes…

Nasty, right? I agree! I pulled the center console out of the car to really get it cleaned.

This was before I extracted the mats. I sprayed them down with Purple Power and then scrubbed and doused them down with water. This got most of the grossness out, but they were still badly stained.

Can you tell which side is the cleaned side?

Ok, I am sure you are wondering if I cleaned those nasty jambs, but of course I did!

Now just a few afters of the exterior.

Thanks for taking the time to view my write up.

You earned your money right there. Details like this are actually easier with the leather/vinyl seating I'd think. Cleaning upholstery that's been left that bad has got to be absolutely brutal.

I gotta get an extractor of some kind.

Purple power full strength you say... Lemme go make up a spray bottle of that for "extreme situations". I've been wondering what to do with the other 3/4 of a gallon of the stuff I have. I put it away when I got the Megs APC+

good job on the matts for sure ... i got a secret for those worn dark creases on the leather ...

first i use a good APC, a stiff coarse brush and brush the wrinkled area vigorously while misting water as i go and leather conditioner/cleaner from megs and then wipe with a rough texture MF towel dry .. then re mist the area with the cleaner/conditioner and wipe again with clean section of MF towel

those dirty crease marks should be gone .. !

cheers mate !

I like to use PP diluted on engines and carpets but, full strength on tires and on extremely soiled carpets and plastic backed mats.

I generally wont bring the PP into the interior of the vehicle unless its really nasty, as this one was!

Thanks for the tip! I could have invested 3 or more hours into this interior, but the owner just wasnt that interested as he was giving it to his son.

I did a detail recently on a mid-90s car that hasn't been cleaned for some years. And it had NO FLOORMATS! You can well imagine the state of the carpets. I didn't have proper tools to shampoo or extract the carpet so I explained the situation to the owner and told her I'd revist the carpets when I had better tools.

I bought a powerful shop-vac today, am buying a little green machine this weekend, and with the purple power and a few other things at my disposal, I'll try it again and see what happens.

Thanks for posting this detail. My exterior work is coming along nicely, but I have MUCH to learn still about interior detailing.

For awhile I thought about selling my Santa Fe and getting a used Audi A4 but I halted at the thought of her looking like this. Most SFs do...chances are she would have wound up in the hands of somebody who didn't give two damns about her. So I'm keeping her...FOREVER.

early in my detailing career I did a car a bit worse than that(dirt wise, non smoker) and all I had at my disposal was tough stuff and a few brushes and shop vac. I literally filled a 3 gallon bucket with dirt and dog hair before ever switching on the vac. I feel your pain. It was a freebie too with cloth seats. Her second child of only two children had passed away and she was all alone. I felt so bad for her and I spent six hours and four cans of tough stuff on the interior alone. When She saw the results of my labor she had a huge smile on her face and in light of her situation I thought if I could just make one thing about her life pleasurable I would have succeeded in my mission, She told me that every time she got in her car she was happy to know that she was not alone and that somebody in this world loved her. Those six hours were the best hours I ever spent.

Its always nice to be able to give back! All it takes in one good deed to put a smile on your face!

Thanks guys!
