Have you checked out the new Cisco "Flip" HD video camera? Has HDMI output, built in usb plug, provision for tri-pod. My wife has one and loves it and it takes great video. Its 2 1/2" X 4" X 1". It would be great for what you are doing. I like it.

Not sure of cost but I'm sure you can try it out somewhere. Her's was a gift.
Just something to check out, I know it works well from personal experience.
