Poorboy's World Products

The weather is changing and detailing becomes a totally indoor hobby for me this time of year. During the winter I like to purchase and try new items that I discover over the internet and Autopia. A couple of items that caught my eyes were the PoorBoy's "Natural Look" water-based dressing and preservative and the "Spray and Wipe". Another eye-catcher were the prices. Natural Look - $8/ 16 oz and the Spray and Wipe - $10/32 oz.

To my amazement the Natural Look worked great. I used it on my leather interior of the Z28 and the Lexus. Very low sheen after allowing to dry and buffing ( slightly higher than 303), non-greasy and smells good :D. The finished results are quite similiar to Aerospace Protectant 303. This product has UV protectants and leather preservatives. I left one rear seat, which was previously treated with 303, alone. I will compare the long term durability (~ 1 month) of the two products. Right now the PoorBoy's dressing has the lead( cost and fragance) it really smells good. The kicker was that I treated my tires with this product. It massaged in nicely and produced a gloss without being greasy or sticky. No flinging and dust attraction was nil.:bounce. I wished that the "Natural Look" could be purchased in larger quanities even though product usage is very economical. A little goes a long way.:xyxthumbs

To test the "Spray and Wipe" I first washed the Lexus, applied a coat of Blackfire and drove for two days. Since there was no precipitation during this time period I just Cali dusted and detailed with the Spray and Wipe. It has no silicone or waxes but I can not state if it has any alcohol. It has very good lubricity and wipes on and off without streaking. One can see the light surface dirt that was not removed by the pre-dusting. This product did not add any sheen but it did uncover the hidden gloss of the Blackfire. The whole car took about 20 careful minutes and I felt pretty secure that this waterless wash on a rather clean car was doing no harm. I followed this exercise with the Blackfire QD and the car appeared like it was just waxed. Total time about 40 leisurely and careful minutes. I used about 2 oz of Spray and Wipe to do the Lexus.

Another usage I found for this product was cleaning clearcoated rims. Again these are rims that are relatively clean ( after one of driving - light brake dust) that just need a little detailing.

Would I re-purchase these items when they run out? If the Natural Look continues to impressive - definitely. The Spray and Wash depends on the presence or absence of alcohol( I PM'd Poorboy about this question). If alcohol-free this would be a great bug, bird and sap spray that will clean but not add or subtract from my sealant protective coats. It is good to have the Spray and Wipe in my arsenal for emergency ( it works good and does what it states) but I am a firm believer in careful hand washing with plenty of water and time. But if you are living in an apartment/ condo and constant bucket washing is inconvenient this product will aid in keeping that finish clean between washes from daily fallout along with a Cali duster.

Has anyone else tried these products? What are your results and long term opinion on these products?

BlkZ28,

Thanks for the info. As for the Spray and Wipe...is there anything different about this product from other Quick Detail sprays that allows one to use it on a relatively dirty car? The impression I got from reading the website is that this product that replaces normal washing.

I've not tried Poorboy's Natural Look dressing but I have used, and continue to use the Spray and Wipe. The Spray and Wipe works very well on light surface dirt and dust. If the car is just over that line where you feel you can safely QD, the Spray and Wipe works great.

I wouldn't use it on cacked on dirt and mud nor would I say you could toss your bucket and chenile mitts away but this could very possibly cut your bucket and hose washes down to becoming the exception rather than the norm....especially on a garaged vehicle.

It definetly takes some getting used to but it does work and work well when used within the parameters of it's capabilities. I also keep a small spray bottle now in my glovebox along with a mf towel for those nasty bird bombs. Use it in doorjambs, under decklids, anywhere.

Thanks for the review blkz28, I'm glad you will include my products in your arsenal. The products are all new to the market and were designed by a chemist and myself. Everything is water-based and there is NO alchohol in my products. That would strip off most products which is not the intention of the product. The Spray and Wipe contains water, emulsifiers, and surfactants to clean and restore shine without scratching. It can not create a shine of its' own..i.e. spray it on something dirty & flat black it will become clean and still flat. On a dull surface, it'll only make it clean and dull. As far as Natural Look, it is also water-based made to clean and leave rubber, leather, vinyl and plastic with its' original shine. Not greasy or sticky, and dries to the touch in minutes. High sheen can be obtained with layering of product.

Also contains UV protectant and makes cleaning and dressing easy and quick.

Intermezzo the future is now and scratch-free waterless washing is here to stay. Of course these types of product are meant and designed for new and well maintained vehicles only. If you are not an auto enthusiast you probably would be heading for the drive thru car wash anyway.

As you can see from the review it does not interfere with what ever product is already on the vehicle.

That's a very generous offer. Thanks a bunch! :xyxthumbs

So for the waterless wash, can it be safely done on a weekly interval (my cars are well maintained but driven daily)?

Tony

Intermezzo , I think that you would have no problem and also know that you would probably give up 15 minutes of your time for a quick "fix" more often. If it's a really bad smog week you'll use a little more. If it's mud or long term build up of dirt...like Natty said, go out and by all means wash off the vehicle. I also forgot to mention on those garage queens you can dilute the Spray and Wipe up to 20% for just QD dusting. I also recommend large soft mf with it. Pick your own brand:p and soft terry for your coated or uncoated wheels(brake dust) and tires too before dressing.

One more point : it actually works best in the hot sun...works fine indoors too but I don't go to too many car shows in the summer inside. Good Night:wavey

I have used Poorboy's Spray & Wipe for a few months and have not used water to clean either of my vehicles during this time. Using Poorboy's large microcloths (the purple ones) with the Spray & Wipe, I have reduced my detailing time by half. It took me 40 minutes to completely detail the exterior of my '89 Accord yesterday. It definitely works better in the sun. The finish has a slicker feel. Spray & Wipe also does a wonderful job of removing brake dust and grime from wheels using an old microfiber cloth. Natural Look on the tires with a soft brush to lift the road grime left the tires looking like new with a nice luster.

Don't forget about the Polish w/ 100% Carnuba. Goes on and comes off very easily leaving a glowing finish. It cleans and protects in one step. This is the best and easiest to use polish/protectant I have ever used. The finish is very slick and does not attract dust. Water beads are very small and move off the finish very quickly when driving.

Natural Look is also great on the interior surfaces, both plastic and leather. It does not attract dust like 303 and leaves a very nice luster to all surfaces.

If you're looking for a way to detail your vehicle during the winter months, these products are the way to go. They'll work great year round and save you a lot of time and effort.

Thanks everyone for your interest. I forgot to mention that there are a few items missing from the web site...
