Pic/$20,000 over sticker?

Here is a Lotus Elise I put my paint sealant on today, their is a 2 year wait for this car. sticker is $40,000 and they are taking orders for $60,000. I think its insane, but the public is falling over each other to get a test drive. I would not believe it if it were not for the fact that a guy came in off the street and in less than 5 minutes he wrote a deposit for one. Maybe its because of the finish on this car that makes it worth that much? [:D][8]

That car is a pretty serious track contender. It sticks with the big dogs but I'd never pay that much for it.

Nice work on the paint. Any polising of it before sealing it up?

I have noticed more than my share of defects on some of these exotics I detail. You would think these car are perfect WRONG!This one was QD, had to clay as well. QD again. Poorboys SR 1, than on to sealing it. Gary

Not much horsepower. About 185 hp but weighs less than 3000 lbs. It's supposed to launch like a rocket and faster than most other street cars.

got great writeups and is supposedly a poweful and handling beast

it looks like *** though...i would rather spend the money on the c6 vette

190 hp, and less than 2000 lbs. You don't need much horsepower when it's powering a rollerskate :D

A 3200 lb. car would need close to 300 hp to match the power-to-weight ratio of the Lotus, while the Lotus enjoys all the handling positives of a lighter car. Now, if only they made them to fit 6'3" fat guys from Nebraska . . .

best part about that is , it's not even powered by lotus it's got a 1.8 from Toyota in it. mind you it is tuned for this application but for $60,000 even $40,000 I don't think so.

yup.. same motor as the celica gt-s.. but i WOULD actually want to get one (if i had the money...) for the performance, and price, its hard to beat

I stand corrected. Thanks Tort. I remember reading about it in Car and Driver.

Well I hope those boys who are first inline with their extra 20k, enjoy it. In 6 months to a year when supply catches up to demand, that will be a huge extra 20k hit to the wallet.

Its a sweet car, but i wouldnt pay 20k over for it. I cant wait till I see one on the street and get a real feel for its looks.

My brother's friend was actually consitering selling his swaped 240sex (sr20det engine) with a bunch of mods and his cash in the bank for a lotus (not brand new). Instead, his car got stolen, cashier's check bounced that he got from the guy, $20,000 worth. So he got a sport bike with his bank cash. He detailed for Nissan also. :)

those cars are just fun to stare at in person because of all the funky lines and styling.. but its 10times funner to drive.

my friend is thinkin about tradin in his 2000 mroadster and get one.. where going to the dealer nextweek to testdrive one. cant wait for that :bounce

about exotics -

Remember the show Rich Girls on MTV? Where Tommy Hilfinger was going to get the Ferarri? He looks it over and says "there's a scratch on it, for 250,000 you think there would not be a scratch on it..."

To add to that comment. I do the paint sealant program for a high end dealership (sells Lotus/Lamborghini and Ferarri's) I see more paint defects on these cars than on most chevy's and fords. Sad, but true. Gary

Supply won't catch up to demand on a car like this. While they are not immune to depreciation, it's nothing like a Chevrolet, Ford, or even a Porsche.

As far as the engine, who cares who makes it? The more power they can get from Toyota's bulletproof block, the better I say; and who wouldn't want their exotic to have cheap & easy maintenance?

My friend Anthony just picked his up a couple days ago. We're having a Mob Run (The New Jersey Miata Mob) this Sunday; I might make it, and if so I'll give a report from the passenger seat (if I fit in it, anyhow).

Don't fotgot that if your taller than 5' 11" you won't fit inside

I guess I need a new obsession then. I saw one of these on the road last year and immediately fell in love with it. The one in the pic looks especially sweet. Too bad I'm a tall oaf. :(
