Paint chip - recommendations to repair?

This happened while remove a dealer badge. It's about 3mm x 3mm and the one to the right is just a little scratch. The chip is very rough and seems to be down to the metal. So is the scratch. I've never fixed a paint chip before - I saw the "how to" guide here on Autopia, but I'm hesistant as I don't have the supplies and would rather not make the problem worse than it is. If I were to do this myself, could anyone recommend specific products? Telling me I need primer is all well and good, but I have no idea what to get. Telling me to mix my paint is great too, but I have no idea how or with what. Also, I'd like to remove as little of the clear as possible and do as little damage as possible.

Sorry the pictures suck. I couldn't get it to focus properly on the chip, even in macro mode. Also, it rained last night, so the truck is dirty as hell, and I haven't removed all the adhesive from the truck yet. Gonna take something to it and remove that today and just spot seal the area until I get enough time to do a full detail on my truck.

Thanks so much to anyone who takes the time to help here. My girl thinks I'm nuts for being this obsessed over it, but that's just my nature. I want it as perfect as I can get it. This little defect is really bugging the crap out of me, especially since it's a brand new truck (date of manufacture: 11/05/2005 - I got it about 3 weeks ago).

David Bynon's article is the best information out there:

Now a couple of comments. On black sand pearl you may not get a perfect match. Metallics are a b---- to get right. If you are afraid to tackle the job yourself, you might return to the dealer to see who they use for minor touch ups. They frequently have to fix little chips before they deliver a vehicle. Often they out-source the job rather than using their own body shop. A friend of mine owns a detail shop. He does a great job using a process called Sprayless Scratch Repair. You might do a Google search on this process. It works.

Sorry about your truck. I always hate that first scratch or ding.

Well, the head bodyshop guy at my dealership (I work at the dealership I bought the truck) said he'd fix it for free. I've got touch up paint direct from Toyota on order that he's gonna use. I think that's the route I'm gonna go - not that I don't trust myself, but he's got a lot of experience doing this. I'm just going to make sure he'll prime and clear it. :)

Got any pics of your Harleys tguil?

Thanks for the advice!

Go for it. If he's the head of the body shop he should know what he's up to. No pics for a while. I just got a digital camera for Christmas. Maybe by the end of the week.

By the way, my wife has a 2005 Tacoma regular cab 4X4. It's white. A darn nice truck. She's had three Tacomas. Loved them all.
