Opinions on 3M Show Car Wax please

3M waxes don't get much mention here. Any thoughts on the Show Car Liquid Wax? Tried the search but didn't show much.

I've never used the liquid, but I have use the Paste. Pretty nice shine, average ease of use but the durability is about 6-8 weeks for me.

I use it on my new Audi and like it. Goes on and comes off easy enough,

Protection is adequate and it seems very durable.

Like ScottWax, I've only tried the paste, so maybe this is totally OT :o And even worse, I've only used the "older" version of it, which was replaced by the newer stuff earlier this year. But anyhow, that stuff was my wife's favorite LSP on her silver Audi. Easy on/off (by machine) and decent durability.

What's the difference between the 'old' and the 'new'?

How can you tell the difference? Different packaging?

Thanks for your help guys.

I just checked 3Ms web site and it looks like you can order direct and get free shipping ! Even the prices are very reasonable compared to the few dealers that I could find on the net.

3m stuff seems hard to find. In fact there's only one store in my area that handles the complete consumer line. Whereas everybody sells Maguiars, even the local A&P !!!

I've used up a tin of the paste. I was my go-to for people who wanted a quick wax. My cordless fit in the can so it was fast to apply. Removal was average. Durability was as good or better than any wax, but not up to top end sealants. I will buy another tin, but have to use up some other products first. I've had some people really like the way it cleaned up, dirt would rinse off easy at the coin-op, even after it stopped beading. They knew when i switched products.

You might try and see if an auto body supply store sells 3M. You might be able to buy it at a jobber price if you set up an account.

The old stuff had chemicals in it that the new one doesn't. Fluoro-something-or-other-silicon-stuff. I've heard that the older formula beaded and shined better and was slicker because it had that stuff in it. Haven't tried the new version.

You can tell the old stuff by the labeling on the can, look for the fluoro-stuff. It's not listed on the new version.

Much as I like (liked?) the 3M, I get *much* better durability from Meg's #16, let alone Collinite 476S. But the 3M stuff did seem to last better for me than it did for some other people. Experiences with the 3M seem to vary, from what Salty experienced to the "it only lasted three weeks" stuff that some other people posted (a long time ago). For me, it was somewhere in the middle of the two extremes.
