NXT: My initial reactions....

It's not a "one-step" product by any means. When you use it as a one-step, you're not going to get great results. Infact, it probably won't look much better than meguiars cleaner-wax.

My impression was the NXT was designed to work as a one-step product OR as a "with prep" - and still get MUCH better results than anything else out there.

and it absolutely looks better than meg's cleaner-wax.... but not much :o

How does S100 compare to NXT in terms of reflectivity and "brightness"?

NXT has a little more reflectivety than S100. that's about all i can really say with any confidence.

And to the others, what I meant by saying it was a one step product. I meant that it doesn't come with a cleaner(Klasse AIO or Z1) and is more flexible. In that regard it is similar to UPP. All of these protection combinations won't look good without proper polish work beforehand.

We should have had an NXT day here in Lansing, Shiny. ;) Thanks for the review.

maybe in the spring when it gets good enough to do a REAL detail on the rides ;) - if you haven't bought NXT yet, you're more than welcome to use some of mine :xyxthumbs

I haven't had time to do a side by side comparison but I recall my first experience of appying S100 over Klasse as a sort of "wow" experience because it darkened the black paint so dramatically (to me at least).

The small spot that I applied NXT to a couple of days ago did darken the paint and I noticed the paint darkened fairly nicely.(this is ontop of klasse that was applied a couple months ago, I did not prep other than to QD). However, The effect wasn't as dramatic.

I need to do a side-by-side comparison to make a proper judgement though.

The misconception was that NXT was the finish in the bottle that everybody had been hoping for. This is especially misleading when Mike Phillips posted pictures where NXT did a better than average job of covering swirl marks with lab sample "d." If somebody said that NXT is the best sealant they have used, then they need to try a few more products. If somebody says it is the worst, they need to try NXT again. It's not that it's a horrible product, it is just that it cannot live up to the expectations that may have been overboosted by all the excitement of having a "sealant" available at Walmart. If I was in a store and had to pick out a wax, I would probably take NXT over anything there. If I was online and got to pick a product, there are a few other products I would take over it.

It's not a "one-step" product by any means. When you use it as a one-step, you're not going to get great results. Infact, it probably won't look much better than meguiars cleaner-wax. The pictures that Mike posted were mainly prepped. To this, NXT will look great. When you put "Look at these pictures of CowsLuvitWax, they look so spectacular on my Chevette" it creates the allusion that the end, putting on the wax, caused the finish to be good. Then you get the posts, "CowsLuvItWax is the best thing, first I clayed, then I polished, I then went to a lighter polish, and then I applied the wax."

Many people overlook the prepping as much of the cause of the reflective/deep paint. This is poor logic because the finish should already look reasonably good before you put any protection on it. It may boost the shine and depth (much like glass does on a mirror). Maybe Meguiars needs to make a NXT Polish and package that with it. If you read my post, I put much of the blame on me not doing a full detail before. I'm not done with it, but I'm most certainly am not going to sit around waiting while people on here say things that I found to not be true from my own experience.

It's not back-lash, it's criticism. If that's all this board offered was positive feedback, then what would be the point in reading posts? I made posts last year saying that Blackfire was overhyped, but I think it's a great product now. Who knows, I may find out I like NXT. Do I think both of them are great products? No, and I never said that. NXT is good, not great.

This is Autopia, not Autozone. Good products get shelved and you always look for better, but you always go back to the good products when you find a horrible product. Such as the time I decided I wasn't going to use Blackfire, and used Eagle One cleaner/wax. :o

I could go on and on. I'm sorry I'm rambling, heh.

Rambling? Hell, I think this is one of the more lucid and well thought out observations about the the whole NXT thing.

Well done :up :up

P. S. Want a polymer sealant available at WalMart? Try NuFinish. Seriously. If nothing else this stuff is durable.

Yeah, got it already and gave it a test run. Won't be able to form a meaningful opinion on it until spring when I can really get into a full detail with it.

Just a little update on my review because I just ran through another touchless car wash today:

Upon getting the NXT out in the elements, I found that the beading, while present, was not too uniform and the beads were not very small compaired to what I'm used to for freshly applied product. There was a great deal of slickness and reflection though. After washing, there seems to be noticeably less lustre in the shine I'm seeing, but the slickness and beading seem to have stayed about the same. We'll see how long that part keeps up. :xyxthumbs
