Nu Finish

Hello! I just wanted to introduce myself. I've been lurking for quite a while now and wanted to post my first thread. I love using the latest and greatest products on my car.

I used Nu Finish on my red '93 Corolla for the first time last night. All I've go to say is awsome stuff! It applied and buffed off very easily. The look was like nothing I've seen before. Such depth and reflectivity. I've heard great things from their commercials and had to try it. Anyone else have any luck with this stuff?

I have included a link for a sweet picture. Let me know if you need any tips.

Do you guys think it'll last a whole year?!?!?!?

No--there is no product that will last a whole year on a car. Nu-Finish is not bad, its just not great by Autopian standards. You may want to consider topping it with a pure wax like #26 or #16 from Meguiars.

lol yeah youre gettin flamed. The guys around here use professional products and spend hours upon hours just getting the paint ready to be waxed...you have a lot to learn but at least ya found the right place to learn from :)

so what your saying is i did not prep my hood and fenders before waxing, i think not.

i always prep, if you take a look at my pic

I was a NU Finish guy before I found this forum. Not a bad product, did my Grand Am lickity split. I got a couple of months protection from it. There are alot of other great products out there that the general public has no clue of. NU Finish will not remove swirls, light scratches, cobb webbing, etc. Like boostdfd3s said prepping the car is the most important thing in detailing. NU Finish is an LSP at it's best. Since you are here, do some more reading and maybe buy a product or two and see for yourself. But also be aware of that it's the process not the product as well.

I despise Nu Finish with a passion. No matter how i apply it, and no matter which of the half dozen cars i have used it on, it always looks greasy and streaky and just crappy after about 2 days. I hate the stuff. Id much rather wax every month than have that crap on my car. I just can't stand the stuff.

Oh come on, guys. It's a typical aminofuntional fluoropolymer; high shine, low depth. If you prep right, it looks pretty decent.

It will last about 4 to 5 months, detailonator. Its biggest drawback is that it's an old chemical. There's been so much R&D since the 80s, that there are lots of products that will last as long and look better.

BUT: with proper prep, the differences between products are reduced to nuance. They aren't unrecognizeable, but with proper prep anything looks pretty good.

detailonator- Welcome, glad to have a lurker start posting.

If you're gonna sing the praises of NuFinish, you'd better have your flame-suit on :D as you can probably tell by some of the responses you've already received. Don't sweat it, though.

If someone likes the results they get with a given product, more power to them. Better than running it through the gas station's car wash for a "wash and wax". It's all relative...but keep an open mind, detailonator, there really are approaches out there that will just blow NuFinish out of the water to an extent you can't imagine. I've tried the stuff, and I'm not BSing you.

Oh, FWIW, I found it hard to really get a handle on the condition of your NuFinished panels. The pic was just too small (that's with a 20" monitor) and the lighting wasn't demanding enough for a truly critical evaluation. Note that for some of us, "typical in-the-showroom condition" is the starting point- our version of the "before" picture.

Hey blackcaraddict- Heh heh, I think I can call you on the "nothing lasts a year", well sorta, at least ;) I'm getting *almost* a year out of my multiple layers of SG :D It's been 3 days shy of 11 months for most of the MPV, and it's still beading pretty well except for where I spotclay at every wash, and you can still feel the SG on the paint even on those places. Still looks good too. Much to my surprise, I might add! And that's with *no* Qding.

I might let the roof go until 8 August, that will be a year since that panel's last layer. *It's* still beading great, but then I don't clay the roof very often...Not that I recommend anyone try to go so long without redoing things :o But I kinda enjoy just washing it. Considering what I go through on the other cars, I figure I'm entitled :o

"If you dont want the cool kids to make fun of you for using a consumer product instead of a boutique product, next time youre at the Target, look on the shelf above the Nu Finish and Turtle Wax....between the Gold Class and Armor All.... and get the Autopian approved NXT. Its cutting edge technology is well hidden among a whole host of mediocre products in fancy containers, with cool labels and found at every discount chain in the U.S."

The Walmart and Checkers and some parts stores here in Layton, UT do not carry NXT.
