New Pads for Ultimate Detailing Machine

It's time to replace my pads. I've already ordered a new 6 inch DAS orange pad, but I'm thinking about going with 4 inch pads to use with SONUS SFX-1, 2, & 3.

I'm trying to decide between the Sonus pads and Lake Country pads.

Also, if I go with Sonus pads, can I use them with the Lake Country 3.5 inch backing plate? It's cheaper.

Any suggestions on which way to go? I have a couple of medium scratches to remove, plus it's almost spring. Time to get prepared to redo everything. Doesn't everybody strip their cars and reapply all the new stuff they stocked up on over the winter? I'm going Danase Wet Glaze & Ultima PGP on the black '07 Infinti G35-S. I've been using Klasse up until now. I'm sick of messing with it. What a pain.

I am totally clueless about pads. I saw those, but very few pads have been reviewed here. Do you know anything about Uber pads?

Only what I read in the DD forum. A nice feature is they have the intended use stenciled on the velcro so you don't have to remember what color is for what. Although IME sometimes velcro stenciling gets blurred from use/washing.

My current favorite pads for DA or rotary are the LC CCS 5.5" low profile pads. Anymore, I'm just not a fan of big pads. I tried the LC 6.5" pads and didn't care for them at all. The smaller ones are easier to handle on the rotary and provide more power vs. the 6.5" pads on the DA. Plus, they are on sale at AG right now.

I like the few changes that Meguiar's made to their pads, EXCEPT the fact that they went up in size to 7". The size is the only thing holding me back from trying them.

Thanks, Mike! Great price on the pads. I went ahead and ordered a full set plus the Pinnacle Pad Cleaner. I'll post my results in a month or two when I think it might be safe enough (weather-wise) to carry through with a complete detail.

I bought a set of the DAS pad for my UDM. i was kind of underwhelmed with the cutting power they had. I tried some 4" pads from AG and it increased the cut dramatically. I only use the bigger pads on my makita 9227

No problem. Always glad to help! :bigups

The Sonus Yellow and white pads in both sizes work the best with UDM. Especially the yellow, the orange pads (LC, DAS) tend to be too stiff and create marring. There are a lot of pads out there and most of them are fantastic. But SFX1 polish works the best with the SFX 1 pads (especially the new and improved). SFX 2 polish likewise works great with the SFX 2 pads. Although!!! the LC white pads are a great pad.

I have been a huge fan of the Sonus pads for some time now. I have fifteen kinds of pads and the Yellow Sonus pad is my go too pad.

fergnation,

I'll get back with you about the LC pads, since that's what I ordered. I'll try the Sonus next time. I agree with you about the DAS pads. They were my first ones. I've had them for almost two years. They never floated my boat. I think we all learn through trial and error, but I always appreciate the advice I get here, although it can be confusing. There are some issues that defy consensus.
