Mr. Clean AutoDry Car Wash

I didn't like it. Car didn't shine afterward, or feel smooth. As well as my mitts etc always came out with a dirt film on them. So I guess it cleaned well. Maybe toooooooo well. Almost like it stripped the car.
 
I used the hose sprayer part a few years ago for some time. The filters don't last too long. I was trying to avoid the drying portion of the wash phase, but what I did was just learn the correct wash methods (including how to dry properly) and see no need for it now.

It's not a "bad" system I don't suppose, it's just not very economical when you compare the soap and filters to other washes and microfiber drying cloths. I have also heard things about the soap that I did not like, although I never saw any verification of the claims.
 
I just recently saw mine gathering dust so I gave it away. I hated the soap they used, it seemed to leave a film, especially on the windows. Like Jared I mostly used it for the filtered rinse, but on that setting the water comes out pretty slow. I'd recommend investing that money in some Poorboy's S S & S and a good waffle weave towel.
 
You have to learn how to use this system as I have nothing bad to say about it.

I will not strip wax. It cleans very well but it's not cheap.

But, if you wash in direct sunlight, you need to wash small sections and rinse right away. The polymers in the soap will mark hot surfaces. Then you can mist rinse(filter).

The filter duration all depends on the quality of your water. I was able to stretch mine over 20 washes without seeing a water spot.

The soap is great but dang expensive. I used Megs GC in it afterward! Works very well in the MrC gun!

Too bad some people think it's crap as I really like the results. Great product IMO.
 
I honestly think that they could tinker with this thing and make it a lot better. Mainly, more water during the filtered rinse would be a huge improvement.

I agree, but that'd be hard to do because the unit is so small. A filter can only do so many GPM before it isn't effectively filtering. A ~2.5" x 10" DI filter can only do about 1 GPM and that is a lot larger than the Mr. Clean filters.

To really get good filtering (a real spot free rinse) with decent water flow you need larger filters like the CRSpotless uses or put something together like this:

I'm currently experimenting with an El-Cheapo system like mentioned in the above thread but haven't had enough time to fully evaluate it yet.
 
I agree with the pressure problem. When I used theis last summer, the spray was little more than a trickle.

I saw this at my local pepboys. FIgured I would give it a try. I just tried using it today. I had a different experience with it:
I had plenty of water pressure even with the last filtersd phase. The filtered, autodry part did not seem to work right. It came out as a vertical fan type spray. It left plenty of water on the car which did bead up. I think I used it right, followed directions, less than 1 foot away for last rinse.
I am letting it air dry now, hoping for no water spots but I am doubtful.:(

Yeah it actually did work. Took a long time to dry(~2hrs) thats why I was worried. In directions it says that you see it start drying immediately, so I thought something was wrong. Must have just been slow because its cold outside and didn't evaporate as fast.
 
One thing that needs to be pointed out to anyone that try this.
The OP on autopia stated he was going to double the volume by installing the filters in series that will NOT Increase the volume it will filter twice but the same GPM to Increase the volume you must put them parallel if you were to built a manifold with 4 filters working parallel it would flow 4 GPM.

Yes, cold does not lend itself to the though behind the auto dry system. It does work well when it's hot, but then again in the spring time it was bad to catch pollen while drying too. :(
