Mr. Clean Auto-dry Car wash?

I just received my Mr. Clean in the mail. Will check it out this weekend and let you know if I have the "water pistol" problem.

It does have a pretty good rinse setting, but the "Mist" doesn't really have much going for it, an I have pretty good water pressure.

HAHAHHA!!!! How long would it take to do the whole car like that? By the time you're finished with one half you'd have water spots.

I used mine today and it worked! The mist is about a foot wide fan shape. Just move it back and forth about a foot above each panel.

After misting, I watched basketball on TV for about 30 minutes....when I went back out, the car was SPOTLESS! After driving it, I had to wipe the water that leaked out of the side mirrors, but other than that, no towel touched my car today.

The product is certainly worth a look.

I would say it works about 89% :)

there was still some places where the water beaded rather than sheeted...but I wiped those places with the absorber and it was not a problem. Definatley shiney when done, but I am not 100% sure about the "will not remove wax" as the car was not smooth at all (I had done a complete detail the weekend before).

add to that the soap and filters do about 3 washes (filter depends on hard your water is but the instructions say about three uses).

The thing is a tad bulky, but it made washing really go fast over the two bucket method. Using the filter spray you need to keep it 12" from the car surface to make sure you get the plain old water rinsed off.

Very toy looking too (like a stormtrooper super soaker ;) ).

not sure how much refills are but right now it is about 5 bucks a wash with what came with the unit (two soaps and two filters) - that's a tad expensive over how much time it saves in my book.

But hey it does work

hmmm your water pressue must stink - or maybe you don't have the filter in correctly - mine misted just fine

I tried mine today as well (received it on Friday.)

As others have noted, I had a stronger stream of mist than pcar996TT did. The spot-free rinse came out in a fairly robust fan-shaped spray. It was about 1/3 as powerful as the regular rinse setting.

I only tried the soap once, on two of my wheel wells (my car was pretty dirty and I felt safer using a bucket to wash). It wasn't very impressive. You could barely see the soap when it touched the surface; it is fairly colorless and doesn't generate much foam.

The spot-free rinse worked, but not terrribly well. However, I think this is due to the shape of my car. I have a Jeep Cherokee, which is very angular and has many areas, such as a luggage rack, which trap water. The spot-free rinse worked pretty well on areas which rinse easily, like a hood. The sides of the car, however, were a different story; many water spots were left there.

This is an okay product. It doesn't really meet Autopian standarsd- the soap isn't very good, the risk of scratching is too great, and the spot-free rinse doens't work perfectly.

However, I bought it to for those weekends when I am pressed for time and ony want to do a really quick wash just to get the dirt off - i.e. 20 minutes per car, no vacuum, QD or tire dressing, etc.. The Mr. Clean product fills that role pretty well. If that is what you are looking for, it might be worth a try.

I gave it a try again. Opened the mist nozzle with a pin and it did better ( as i said in a previous post, water pressure doesn't "stink") Still did not displace all the water from the previous rinse, so some spots remained. No way I would use the soap setting and a mitt, especially on a black car, just not enough lubrication.

I have a real deionizer filter now... so a hose with my own nozzle, a good spray, a bucket full of quality soap and the leaf blower, and waffle weave, are what I'm sticking with...

Is that ballvalve all the way open?? looks like its only about half way

I received two units and have had multiple people try them. If you follow the directions to a tee, it is amazing how disgusting and foul your washing mitt or sponge becomes in the first few swipes. Then they expect you to keep using it. YIKES.

I should have put a disclaimer on my thread; those who did use my Mr. Clean AutoDry are not Autopia member.:scared

I will say this after using it, my QD's don't seem to work like they used to - I use Platinum Ultimate Gloss Enhancer and PB's Spray and Wipe (not really a QD but great for after rain)....

I am starting to think it has left some kind of residue as now when I QD the application is tacky. It grabs the MF towel after application and it takes more than a few turns to a fresh side and I don't get the slick feeling I used to...:(

We have a week of 60 degree weather this week so I will do a another trial run on it.

To be honest I think P&G added a "Jet-Dry" type polymer to their soap to create the sheeting action. I am no chemist but I would be willing to bet there is something else in that soap that is very similar to what many of us use in our dishwashers to get that "Spot-Free" shine.

it says as much in the information - part of the "only use Mr. Clean autodry soap." One reason is others will clog the unit and the second is that only Mr. Clean soap has special additives to work in conjuction with the filtered mist for a spot free shine. While it may not "remove" wax, I'm pretty sure it "leaves" something...

on second thought I may wash with the old method just to do a post wash comparison -

I will wash with my regular soap and two bucket method and do a final rinse with the filtered water to see how it comes out - should be interesting.

Hi all,

I just had to register after reading this thread. (I've been an anonymous reader for a while..)

I got my AutoDry two weeks ago and tried and out on my Avalanche and on my minivan. This thing SUCKS, in my opinion. It left a nasty film on both of my cars and made the windows extremely difficult to clean.

I couldn't figure out why my windows were all streaky after using my Stoner glass cleaner. It was the residue from the AutoDry!

Problem #2: The little cartridge "filter". Apparently, it is supposed to turn totally brown when it's exhausted (approx.3 washes). Well, what shade of brown, exactly? It's brown to start with! My first filter ran out of gas before I was able to adequately rinse my Avalanche. (The kit comes with 2)

I switched filters and was able to wash my minivan. It is NOT totally spot-free. It sorta worked, but I don't want that nasty residue on my cars.

No sir, I don't like it and won't be using it again.

Mine pooped out after one "filter" rinse as well - on an acura TL-S...either I have the hardest water on the planet or the way over estimated that 3 uses.
