Most regreted detailing product purchase?

I have a UDM (Ultimate Detailing Machine) 1.0 too - low serial number like 171.

My recollection....It was a DA polisher that was built/marketed by David B`s outfit which was the predecessor of Autopia-car care before it was purchased by Bob. I had purchased mine from the now defunct Danase.

It was touted as made in the USA but much content came from elsewhere. I think it was more powerful that the 7424 but had a reputation for issues (power switch button had a fix, short motor brush life, needed better counterweights to reduce vibration). There was talk of re-engineering but ultimately they just relabeled a PC 7424 so that was known as UDM 2.0.

Blackfire Crystal Coat Paint Coating

I went in deep with this stuff, never having used a paint coating I went and bought 2 bottles!!! That was dumb, this stuff is a nightmare to buff off. I ended up having to re-polish the trunk that I was applying it too and I ended up using Pinnacle Black Label coating.....BTW that stuff is awesome.

I just read a post over on Autogeek, let them know if you have this stuff and are unhappy with it. I already sent an email, just trying to help you guys out.

Going to have to agree with you on this. I traded for some over on the AGO sample trading area just to try it to see if I would have issues. Sure enough it was a pain in the butt to remove it. I was only applying it to the gas tank cover of my brothers harley. I ended up polishing it off and applied gloss coat instead. I doubt I would get anything if I tried to return it since I didn`t really buy but trade for it out of curiousity. My first disappointment in a blackfire product. It`s going in the trash.

Honestly the first two bottle of the stuff I used were GREAT. Then I had 3 bad bottles.

I`ve heard of others having great results, unfortunately, that was not the case for me. I wish it worked for me because from what I understand, when it works, it looks great (probably from one of your post).

Easy. I know some people like this stuff but mine is Megs Endurance Tire Gel. Horrible. Its like eel slime. Slings like crazy and doesn`t hold up to even one rain strom. Now I know why you can get it all Walmart.

I skipped the Blackfire Coating. I heard it had issues right out of the gate. One person would have great results, then five had bad results. That`s one that should have been recalled. It cast a bad light on the Blackfire brand although I have never had anything but great results from other Blackfire products. Same way with CarPro Reload problems. One bad batch not addressed by the manufacturer can spoil the rest of the line. I doubt I will ever give Reload (or Blackfire Coating) another chance, too many proven good products now.

I could fill a couple bathtubs with all the products I`ve tried and didn`t like over the years. Some that come to mind as really dissapointing -

Optimum Hyper Compound Spray

Meguiar`s 205 - I know it`s supposebly a great product but I`ve never liked it.

Forever Black trim restorer. Practically impossible to apply evenly.

Pretty much every turtle wax product I`ve ever tried.

Most Auto Magic polishes and compounds. Their tire dressings are awful too. Sling city.

Stoner`s Zenit Citrus Cleaner. Bought a case of this recently and it isn`t impressing me at all and it stinks.

Haven`t found a dedicated glass cleaner that I like either and I`ve tried a zillion. I use ONR or Paint Prep Cleaner from Optimum. Works great.

Haven`t found a microfiber cleaner that works well enough to make window towels perform well. I use new microfiber towels on glass. They get demoted to other uses after that.

Haven`t found a microfiber wash mitt that I like either. I`m an old dog that uses synthetic wool wash mitts. Never marr finishes. Holds lots of wash solution. I always have ONR in the mix which I give a lot of credit to for not marring.
