Microfiber Towels - Glass

I, OTOH, found the huck towels to be simply crappy! Noting that there are different "huck towels", I got mine from an Autopian who thought they were great, and I hate 'em. Eh, YMMV and all that...

So far, my favorite glass towel is Buff and Shine's microfiber glass towel. They're heavy-duty and super low nap. No linting, no sticking.

I get them from Auto Detailing Solutions, but Buff and Shine is a pretty common brand for a lot of detailing supply outfits so they should be easy to find.

Definitely +1 on washing them separately. You don't want to transfer gunk from every other process into your glass towels. And use minimal soap too, no washing machine is 100% effective at rinsing. I use APC because it rinses out really well.

I problem with even trying the microfibertech.com route - shipping is $7.95 minimum - I hate paying that especially to try a $9.95 towel!

Thanks for chiming in on 14910 - free shipping over $25 at Griots, plus no tax (yet)!

OTOH, they have some excellent towels, and even better prices. Think quantity when going to MF Tech and you'll end up paying far less than anywhere else.

the glass towels are sold in packs of 10. if your ordering other towels from them they might give you a sample if you ask.

Exactly! I'm about to order some case lots from Ian, and to help with that decision he sent me samples of everything from 360gsm all the way to 700gsm!!! :xyxthumbs Now my only problem is I want ALL OF THEM! :hmph:

On the 'nano-lint' issue... I'm more towards the (already mentioned earlier) line of thinking that it's more of a dust issue on the glass after the fact.

Can always go totally old school (considering how really OLD I am to begin with) and after you clean your glass... you polish it, inside and out, with newspaper. Actually a brown paper grocery bag I like better, but WHO used paper grocery bags anymore?!?!?! ;)

Same here--once I tried the Huck towels never touched the glass with MF again. We now use them on the house windows also.

I have a couple of dozen that were shifted to other duties as well (the minute I realized they absolutely sucked for glass). .....probably just a characteristic of the ones I bought but I'm not in a hurry to try anymore.

Heh heh, while you're spending money there get their Rubber Prep too, even if it just sits on the shelf for now. Sorry, couldn't resist as I consider it a true miracle product.
....I finally broke down and bought a bottle last week. With all of this constant praise, I figured I better see what I've been missing. ;)

Should be delivered by today although it may take me a little while before I get to use it. Also bought a couple extra of their wheel wands (which I like).

Eh, newspapers and autoglass have changed a lot since the days when that worked well.

And hey, *I* still use brown paper grocery bags all the time! :chuckle:

On the lint issue, when I get it (and I eventually do with any MFs), it *is* lint from the MFs, not dust/etc. Dust and MF lint look completely different to me :nixweiss

I don't understand how cotton towels can work. Don't those = lint city?

They leave so much lint on the surrounding areas that I cannot use them on certain interior glass applications. But it's not a real issue on most exterior glass; wet with window cleaner, there isn't much lint left on the glass, at least not after a follow-up with something else.

But oh man do the interior surrounds on some vehicles grab/retain the lint! Big job cleaning it off.

Depends on the type of towel you use. A high quality lint-free cotton towel wont. I dont know what it was about those Megs towels, but they did not lint (maybe it was the weave style.) Wish they still sold them, they were nice and plush and lined in satin.

We'll have a new glass towel in the next month- ribbed MF- very, very tight weave. Based on a Sonax glass towel. Over $9 per towel? You are either buying from a "middle" source, or paying about a 1000% mark up.

Yeah well... figured that "brown paper bag" thing would wake up the old folks. :chuckle:

I've been up in the air about MF and glass. Gotta' have as short a nap as you can get away with that's for sure. Ian (MF Tech) has some that work, but may take some trial and error.

Mostly depends on the customer though. For most of them, with DD's, a short nap MF with some decent glass cleaner leaves it clean enough that they don't even notice the 'micro-lint'. (Not that *I* don't notice it, but that's a different story.):gossip:

Heh heh...that was a good one :chuckle:

It funny about MF and glass...I have some of the old original Cobra MFs for Glass, the orange ones, and a few of them don't lint at all. Zero. None. But most of 'em do lint something awful :nixweiss

Isn't that the truth! Darndest thing about MF towels that way. I've got some too that one still performs like new and another will lint, or another will be freaking hydrophobic or something. :nixweiss
