Lights?>

I was looking at some stand up Halogen lights at Lowes they have a 500 watt and 100 watt only $10 difference. Am I better off with the 1000? I will be detailin in my garage mostly.

I use the 500 watt. Even at 500, it gets a bit uncomfortable to work under for any extended period of time. Any more brightness/heat would really make it tough. I don't just use them to find defects. I do *all* of my polishing under the halogens. It really allows you to see the intracacies of the paint, how well the polish is breaking down, what the conditions of the defects are, etc.

I'd go with the 500 watt x 2, but SB brings up good points about the drawbacks. I would definitely want the brighter light though.

I only have a single 500 watt halogen light, and really need the dual setup.

How much are these running at Lowe's now?

Check out Sears.com

I picked up my dual 500 watt setup last week. It was on sale for $19.99. Even if it's no longer on sale, it was $29.99.

I'm on my 3rd pair of halogens. My first set was from Wal-Mart ($30, 2x500W) and quality was lacking. They didn't even include the bulbs as advertised...so I returned those and picked up a similar set at Menard's (like Lowe's) and the mechanism within one of the pipes broke so I could not move the stand by lifting the handle above the lights without completely removing one of the pipes (within the other pipe).

Anyhow, sometimes you get what you pay for. Now I have a 1200W pair. Each housing contains two 300W bulbs that can turned on or off independently. This is a handy feature if you are not closely inspecting the paintwork and just want your work area well lit. Build quality seems to be great. They are made by the Designers Edge, part #L-11DB.

Rob,

That's the exact same setup I bought last week. I used it last night for the first time, and it worked really well. Careful though...it's like working a mile from the sun. :angry

That's funny, I was just looking at that before you posted!

The thing I like about those is: 1) variable lighting output 2) Craftsman> lifetime guarantee (right?).

What setting do you normally use?

I picked up the Husky halogen from Home Depot for 39.99. It's better quality then the one from Sears.

The pics do seem to support that the Home Depot model might be of better quality. But as little as I will use them, the cheaper model from Craftsman will probably be fine for me.

I was trying them out last night with both bulbs cranked up to 500 watts. I had the garage door up, and it was still toasty.

Well, I think we now know what caused the CC failure on your TL!
