Just purchased Metabo PE12-175

Ok looking at the speed ratings:

- DeWalt: 3000rpm

- Makita: 3000rpm

- PC 7428: 3000rpm

- Metabo: 2200 rpm

I am not a rotary user, yet! But I can see one in my future. Just by reading around, typical usage speeds go from 800 to 1500 and back down. There are some pad/product combinations that I have read that suggest 2000. So is it totally meaningless that the DeWalt, Makita, PC 7428 have more powerful speeds than the Metabo PE12-175?

It took 11 days?

No. I placed order after hours Friday which means Metabo couldn't get it before Monday morning. UPS picked package from them Tuesday afternoon. Package was at my place Monday morning. 3 business days for UPS ground. 5 business days after I ordered it.

My understanding (which is understanding of absolute beginner) is that yes, they are meaningless. My guess is that this is because all these tools are intended to be metal polishers, not paint polishers.

How much weight difference is there between the Matabo and Makita?

Maybe a pound or so at most. But they do feel different and the Metabo *feels* like there's more of a difference than there is, perhaps it's a matter of percentage-of-total since it's not like either one weighs all that much.

IMO the Makita won't wear you out the way a beast like the Milwaukee will, but you will probably feel it if you're not used to doing this stuff. And that could mean that you'd start making mistakes too.
