hey guys,

right now im using the meguaries endurance shine gel, but it doesnt last for more than 1 day, is their anything else i could buy from my local auto store, that would last longer but still give me that wet shine? i used many sprays shines but the shine just goes on to my car instead of the wheels.

you're going to get many different opinions, but i've had good results with AA tire gel (also use the foam). it's inexpensive, looks good, and can be found locally. not to mention, one bottle will last you a long time....

I'm looking for a new tire shine too. Currently I'm using AA Extreme Tire shine too, and it's the best OTC I've used so far. I've used Megs high endurance regular and high gloss, their hot rims tire shine and eagle one tire shine, but I always want something wetter and more durable. I know most of you in the forum prefer a more matte semi-gloss tire dressing. But I'm looking for the blackest, wettest and glossiest shine that'll last a while. Anyone have any suggestions?

In my experience, Black Magic Tire Wet will give you that really wet/glossy/shiny look and it's pretty durable too. Just be careful of tire sling though. Oh, and make sure you clean/scrub the tires well to get whatever crud is on there first before putting the dressing on.

I was curious about the Black Magic Titanium Tire Wet when I saw it at the local Target for $7.99. Is that glossier than the AA Extreme Tire shine and Meg's High Endurance?

Never used AA Extreme Tire Shine so I can't say. But compared to Meg's Endurance, it's definitely glossier/wetter unless you layer Endurance enough times. With enough coats of Endurance (3 perhaps?), I think you can achieve pretty much the same thing..... though I've never tried, so

I prefer a semi-gloss look and only put on 1-2 coats of Endurance and then wipe it down a bit.

I know you said you want an OTC, but I highly recommend Poorboys Bold'n'Bright. Two coats will give you a very wet, glossy look with minimal sling. It lasts for at least two weeks for me. The problem with the OTC dressings is that they are silicon based and they just sit on top of the tire. The when you drive they sling off, and there's your reason for the short durability. Poorboys is water based and the tire absorbs it, and it keeps the shine for a lot longer than OTC's.

I like water based dressings so my OTC recommendation is for Mothers FX. Looks nice and durability seems pretty good for a water based dressing.

It's not the silicone in the tire dressings that are bad, it's the petroleum distillates. Generally speaking, you want to use the milky dressings and not the clear ones.

And, not all OTC dressings are bad, Mother's, Duragloss, and Armor All Origional are all water based and will perform nearly as well (if not better) than the boutique offerings.

Ultimately though, a clean tire, scrubbed with a tire brush and tire cleaner is the key to a good looking tire.

agreed, and also working the gel/dressing into the tire is the key...

I'm surprised that the Endurance is not lasting longer. I get weeks of shine. Are you applying to a clean tire and rubbing it in?

Same here. I get at least two and usually three weeks out of Endurance. Unless you are driving your car through an acid bath, Meg's Endurance lasts longer than a day.

x2 on the Armor All Extreme Tire Shine gel. It's a little bit of a pain to apply to aggressively treaded offroad tires, but it is worth it. Make sure the tire is completely clean beforehand though or it will leave a nasty residue on the tire.

I've had a few samples of different boutique gels, but I still stick with Armor All Extreme Gel, it plain rocks, even 3 weeks in when the look has faded it still has a clean black look. Never got any sling from it either, good durability in rainy weather as well, waters beads off. One nice thin coat, and 5-10 minutes later POW...1st time I used it I put a coat on not knowing about the short cure time, and followed with another coat thinking I didn't use enough, damn tires looked bling bling after that lol, one thin coat is all thats needed.

Worst tire product I used was Megs Insane Shine, crappola.

+1 been using it for a yr and still have 3/4 left. After l application, the next wash just wipe with the applicator no more product. Do this for at least 3 weekly washing.

While not OTC it is one you should already have at hand, 303. Put on w/ Eagle One tire swipes, it gives a factory-looking satin sheen and doesn't make your car look as if it came from Joe's Car Corral.

Seems like a lot of people here like me, use the Eagle One Tire Swipes. Is everyone else have the same problem with the sponges separating after a while? I buy new ones pretty frequently and I always have a problem with the yellow part separating from the gray part after a while.
