Favorite Wax/Polish Combo on Dark Cars

All paint is different and different products have different results.

Case and point:

I tried Zaino on my black 2000 Hyundai Elantra GLS. Did a complete Dawn wash, The polish lok and then show car polish followed by Z enhancer. The car came out lozy. It smeared and didn't have a great shine. However, since I spent a lot money on the Zaino system, I tried it out on a blue 1996 Jeep Cherokee with 130,000 miles. The results were phenominal! I included a picture of that.

I redid the Elantra. Dawn wash and then used 3M hand glaze followed by a product called Classic Carnuba paste wax. My dad used it when he was young and claims it was the best....Founds some so I thought I'd give it a shot. The results were excellent. Looked better then when it came off the showroom floor. Also, Meguiars doesn't work well either, because it left some swirls.

So once again, different stuff works differently. I see your buying a German car. From my experiences, a lot of waxes I have used when I have detailed German cars in the past smear and require a lot of work to get off. I suggest trying the P21S system. I hear good things about that and it was formulated for German paint.

Chef,

I have the darkest of dark greens and have tried just about every combination that folks on the board get excited about -- except Souveran over Blackfire. On the Jags I have tried:

Blackfire alone

Klasse AIO and SG alone

Zaino

Zymol Carbon

Zymol Concours

Souveran over Klasse (currently on the XKR)

Souveran alone (currently on the XJR)

I like the Souveran over Klasse the best still.

Carnuaba over Zaino - :nono. I have tried this experiment twice with undesirable results. No increase in depth, finish is not as smooth and dust accumulation increased slightly.
I'm currently experimenting with S100 (P21S) over Zaino on silver, and have had different results than yours. I did experience an increase in depth at the expense of muting the metallic (a slight darkening of the color); since the flake in the silver Subaru uses on the WRX is very bright, I like that effect. Dust accumulation is slightly increased as you said, but as I'm Cali Dusting/QDing every day or two, I haven't noticed a real problem. The finish is still quite slick and beads like crazy.

The effect that a polymer or carnuba will have on any finish depends a great deal, IMO, on the color and whether the finish is metallic or not. Ultimately, it's going to be a "to each his own" type decision, as some will prefer the look of just a polymer, some will prefer glaze/carnuba, some polymer with a wax topper. I happen to like the look that the S100 has given my WRX . . . for the moment, anyway, until I get bored with it and give BF or Platinum a try. As winter approaches, I'll probably switch back to straight Zaino. In my experience, I've had good luck with Z's durability, and I think the upkeep of the finish is easier (especially when regular washings aren't an option, as in Nebraska winters).

In my opinion, if someone already has Zaino, and is curious about how polymer with carnuba topper looks, give it a try. Worst case, you end up doing a Dawn wash and start layering up more Z, and sell your leftover carnuba on abay. :D
