Favorite tire dressing?

In Australia, my Armor All is in a black trigger spray bottle - go figure?!?

For my car its 303 Aerospace Protectant, for mates and customers its Armor All. Both work fine, the Armor All being a little "glossier" than the 303 IMO. Havent had any complaints about it yet!

That's the stuff, but ours says Armor All Original since there are 8 different flavors of it around. A half gallon costs $10.

If you look at the pictures of the Volvo up there's tire, that's how mine look. That's the look I like. Clean and black, with a hint of satin shine.

I just recently started using NXT on the tires. Now that looks nice and wet. I let sit for an hour then wipe with a dry towel and I am good to go with very little goo shooting down the side of the car like I get with most others.

I use the meguiar endurance gel stuff. High gloss. I find it a bit flashy at 1st, but after the 1st day it tones down to something really nice. I Let the car sit for at least 30 mins before moving though as this stuff will flick pretty bad over the car. My only gripe really. It does last through rain pretty good. This is the only meguiars product I use.

I gave up on armor all years ago. Can't stand it. Didn't last long at all. Another product to stay away from is Simoniz tire foam. That stuff will brown out your tires, and you'll never get them back again unless you use the same crap. My father used to put it on his, and I hated it.

I've yet to really find that perfect tire foam for the right price though. I might try some mentioned here. But some of the pics here look no better then what I can do with a wet scott towel imho.

Here's a pic for you guys....

Left side is 303 Aerospace protectant

Right side is Stoner's More Shine Less Time

I had been using Zaino's tire dressing but switch to Meg's Hot Shine after reading this thread and I really like the look! It's a bit greasy applying but looks great and no signs of slinging. Maybe a keeper!

MartyGrant,

You say to use 3M Tire Dressing if you care about your tires.

The MSDS on this stuff says in contains petroleum distillate 60%- 100% by weight. How can something that contains this much PD possibly be good for tires?

That's a question 3M can answer for you better then I can, don't you think?

I too like 303. I don't use it on my tires but I am not unaware of 303's excellent UV protective properties.

3M's stuff has in it White Mineral Oil (petroleum). One can get free shipping on all their car care stuff and a gallon of Tire Dressing, PN38127, is just $16.93 direct from 3M. Anyone know if 3M's Engine Dressing and Prep Solvent is any good?

Tire makers put stuff in the rubber attempting to keep them "black" and not "grey" and rot. Rubber tires have two interesting things in them...carbon black which UV attacks (use your 303 if you like)...and a wax based sacrificial protectant that Ozone attacks. Not driving on your tires (sitting around) may actually stop the flexing needed to bring out the "wax" to the surface. As tires roll they "bloom" and refresh the surface with this wax. Raw silicone glossy tire treatments dissolve this wax and may actually increase the cracking and checking tires experience. Some tire dressings even contain formaldehyde if I remember correctly. Anyway, 3M and One Grand's products don't contain either and actually help dissolve any "silicone" out of a tire so treated but it may take several applications over time. 3M kind of cleans your tires too...just like ....303 does penetrate and clean the surface doesn't it?

I'll be happy to suggest to 3M they rename their product "3M Rubber Destroyer and Tire Killer" if you insist, but I don't think they will listen to me. I understand your liking the UV qualities of 303 and I am seriously pondering if 303 might not be something additional to put over MY 3M treated tires. I'll put Meguiar's on anybody elses car until I can use it all up and then get 3M by the 1 or 5 gallon sizes.

Thanks for stimulating my thinking. :idea :usa

I really like Poorboy's Bold N Bright, I've never used anything better.

I've been thinking about trying it out myself because I find I really like everything else I ever got from Poorboy's. :)

Edit: Ordered some Poorboys to try something new and 303. Also talked to 3M Tech Engineer. He basically said he knows of no data that shows any of the current tire dressings are bad for tires. FWIW, I was not impressed with their explinations and wonder if they were not telling me the whole story...so

After further investigation...I have decided 303 IS the better product then 3M...various reasons... and an old dog can learn new tricks. Right stevet?:o

MartyGrant,

I asked you how a product that contains 60%-100% petroleum distillates by Wieght can be good for tires because you are the one recommending it's use to people who "care about thier tires". If you don't know than why are you recommending the product.

3M Tire Dressing might look good and last long on tires but like any tire dressing that contains petroleum distillates it's not good for the tire.

You said you would be happy to rename 3M Tire Dressing to "3M Rubber Destroyer and Tire Killer". All joking aside but that would probably be a more accurate name for that product.

Yeah, you're right....that is too shiny...I like a little shine but not to the point where you can see your reflection in the tire :D

I cant remember the last time i used that stuff. I used to use it on my wheel arches but a trade size five litre AG Vinyl and rubber is proving good for that!

How much does five litres cost?

for those of us driving around on high performance tires.....

I don't think we need to worry about something eating away at the tires over time since they only last 1-2 years max anyways.

Its called super sheen in 5 litre form and cost either 22 or 25 quid from our local autoglym rep. A litre of super resin is 6 quid plus vat, extra gloss 10 quid plus vat. Very good prices. Hence i am using lots of Autoglym again these days.

Have you used a product called Super Glym? It is super resin with a milder cut.

Thanks Rich, I will make contact with my local rep shortly, at those prices you cannot go wrong. I have not tried any of the pro polishes but I will soon.
