clay bar cleaning?

Is this possible? The ones I have are getting a little funkified. Not too bad if I knead them for awhile but I am wondering if I should order more or if any of you guys have a way to clean the clay?

Thanks!

You can usually use a clay bar until you can not kneed it to a clean side. Once that time comes, its usually better to throw them down to window/wheel clay.

I just keep kneading it over to find a clean side, and when I cant, I toss it

I have one of those instant hot faucets in my kitchen. Get a small pot and place the bars in there, fill the pot with the hot water, and let them sit for a few mins. I then dump the hot water grab the bars and knead them back to new. Most times I repeat that 2-3 times, but it seems to work great and the contaminents are not visable after doing this. If anyone thinks this is bad let me know, but I haven't noticed anything bad. After the bars loose their ability to knead like the did in the early parts of its life, I move them to wheel and window bars as it was previously mentioned. Good luck!

I use warm water to keep my clay warm too so it's easier to kneed in this colder weather.

Helps on the hand soreness trying to kneed rock hard clay.

..What got me wondering was when I came across this DP microfiber cleaner on AG:

It has a picture of a towel and clay bar before and after using the cleaner.

 That's not a piece of clay in that picture, it's an applicator!

The best advice I can give you for keeping your clay clean is what I do; since I usually clay with car wash, I will dip the clay in the rinse bucket and rub the surface with my finger to remove anything that will come off before going back for another pass or kneading. That will reduce the amount of contaminants that get kneaded into the clay, but once you've kneaded them in there, I know of no way to get them out.

pardon my ignorance but I'm curious... applicator for what? The cleaner? Sure looked like clay to me.

Cmon it KIND of looks like a clay bar, no?

For a second I thought it was my Mother's old... nah, that's in Ohio.

Seriously, don't clean a clay bar. When it's dirty, toss it. The idea is that it is to absorb embedded and chemical contaminants. Think of it like a vacuum cleaner bag - when it's full of stuff, it's full, toss it out.
