Cheap Orbital Polisher

My adult children gave me a 10 inch "random orbital" polisher (Vector WaxxPro) as a gift instead of the Porter Cable that I really wanted (at 3-4 times the price). This one looks pretty decent, with adequate handholds, and weighs only 5 1/2 pounds (about the same as the PC). It comes with three 10" "sheepskin" bonnets.



If I keep this thing, what can I expect w/r to versatility and performance? Will it work with detailing products other than waxes? Can I do the glass and plastic (such as headlights)? How about small areas?



Or should I just bite the bullet, return this to AutoZone and toss in another 100 bucks to buy the PC? That involves committing a minor faux pas in front of my kiddos.

I would probably return it and get a PC. I don't know how long those factory pads will last on it. Some of the cheap polishers don't have much for torque, so they aren't good for much more than applying/removing wax.



Since your kids are adults, they probably would understand why you're returning their gift. Just explain that you need it for more than just applying wax.

Sorry, but that Vector sucks its got no balls and will not get much done for you. Very well worth it to return it and spend the extra $100 on the PC. Or just keep it and tell them you use it so they don't feel bad. It was only about $20 at most.
 
Hah ! I have had a cheapie 10" polisher fr many years- used once ! Call me sentimental.... :rolleyes: my daughters bought it for me for Fathers day years ago... I remembered it because of this post. I should get rid of it.... I think it is stored in the darkest recess in my garage, still in the box. Famously, the oscillations when removing wax, were so strong, it became some large exercising machine. :angry I hate those kind of "buffers" only good for storage IMHO ! :xyxthumbs
 
I just got a PC 7336sp which is the same unit as the 7424 for $99.90 at Lowes. Tell them it was on sale last week but out of stock and they will honor the price.
 
Yep, bring it back and get the 7336 from Lowe's like ssorange suggested. They are actually $99 normally here by me, no sale.
 
My suggestion is to get the PC with your own money and keep the gift. I think its not often that you get presents from your children and it need to be appreciated.
