Calif. Car Duster, which one?

CMA has the original for sale and Pep Boys, K-Mart has a different one. They are both more or less the same price at $20.00. I know the original has thicker, longer bristles and appears to be of better quailty. The original is also heavier due to the wooden handle(arthritic shoulder?). What are the pros and cons of both?

Which one is recommended to Autopians?

Thank you:up

It's funny that the $12.99 plastic one from Wally World and the $20 wooden handle are both called " The Original CCD" So is one the "Really Original" and the other "Truly Original." :D

Yes, I concur. A marketing teezer for sure or even an outright lie to non-in the know consumers. But still, which one is better?

Myself I don't use mine any more

a) Black car on a hot day = Parafin wax on the car.

b) Dusted the back bumper off once too often after trips to car shows and now the CCD is too abrasive.

yeah, i dont use mine anymore because it leaves some wax residue, and im afraid it will leave some scratches. I would rather just wash the car

/\/\/\/\ Exactly, My black honda doesn't need a paraffin wax coating all over it. Microfibers with QDs are better for getting really light dust off, any thing more than that and I just wash it.

I dust my car after every drive using a CCD without problems. The key is to gently glide it over the paints surface to remove the dust. Don't use it on dirty paint and keep it away from your wheels.

After using the CCD I wipe the car using FD and a CBT. This keeps any large dust dirt particles from getting trapped in my CBT. Been doing this for ten years now on several cars I've owned without problems. The wax residue is only a problem on heatead paint but since I'm wiping down afterward it doesn't make a difference anyways. I know it's overkill but I don't mind.

The wood handle CCD in only better because of the durability of the wooden handle. I've been using my plastic handled CCD for 6 years and the plastic is starting to crack. If Arthritis is an issue I'd go for the lighter of the two, $20 bucks is nothing to have to spend every 5 years if the handle breaks.

I bought the Turtle Wax Car Duster which I believe is the same version of the CCD. (wooden handle only with GREEN filaments) IMO it works just as well as my cousin's CCD that he ordered, but costs me about $10. With all the windy days lately it really comes in handy and doesn't scratch. :xyxthumbs

I have used the same CCD for over a year with no problems. I follow the same procedure as MBZ 500E. I see no problems with using this product.

Do you use it on your Jeeps and Mustang?

I use it on my Jeeps. My wife has her own CCD and uses it on her Mustang every once in a while. She prefers that I wash it instead.

When the Duster is new, wrap it in newspaper and leave it for a week for it absorb all the extra parafin wax, then you gently touch the surface of your car with it, it's not a scrub brush!

I went to buy my CCD today(just the wal mart version which i hear is about the same as the wooden handled version) but i realized there were two different colors on the actual mop head. One had a red colored mop and the others had a grey colored mop. Whats the diff???

Dunno what the diff is but I do know my sis bought one from Wal-Mart up here and it was crap so she returned it. I have the CCD with a white plastic handle and red head.

Yeah the wal-mart one picked up dust then put it on a different part of the car. I don't use them anymore. Much rather QD than use the CCD.

Well the grey one actually seemed to be more dense. I guess i will go ahead and get one and try it out (very carefully) for ten bucks i might as well i guess?
