Best polish/wax combo for a black car?

Hey guys, first post, I searched and only got some vague answers. I am debating whether to use AIO/SG/S100 or just straight up NXT wax. I like them all, but comes down to what looks best on a black car. Im also confused about scratch x and those swirl removers. Is it the same stuff found in AIO? Just need some opinions from fellow detail enthusiasts! :wavey

for what its worth this is what I did....

Combo 1(photos of this combo in my signature area)

1. Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner

2. Deep Crystal Paint Polish

3. NXT and second coat 12 hours after first

Most recently I have done:

1. #9 2.0

2. Deep Crystal Paint Polish

3. NXT and second coat 12 hours after first

I think the second combo gave me better results the #9 worked very well for me and the entier deal left a very deep looking finish.

I am a big meguiars fan.

For a rich, wet look, I'd polish with Meguiars Swirl Free Polish #82 and Clearkote's Vanilla Moose and wax with Carnauba Moose.

For a more durable sealant option that still has a nice wet look, then I would go with Meguiars Swirl Free Polish #82, Poorboy's Polish w/Carnauba and EX Sealant with Carnauba or EX-P.

I used the exact combination you mentioned, except the S100 was p21s which is the same thing basically, the carnuba really darkened the black paint. This was AIO, SG x 2 and P21S if I remember correctly.

BTW, black is a PITA to take care of and my TT is a garage queen, but the results are awesome!

Please notice-every single wax job includes a polishing step. Without proper prep, no wax will look its best.

Two different looks for black. One very reflective and one very wet and liquid looking.

Oh yeah :xyxthumbs

Black paint can be a pain but when you get it right is looks sooooo good! :D I no longer have any black cars. I'll agree it is easier to take care of metallic silver, but it is not the same as really working on jet black and making it look like a liquid mirror!

Cheers,

Welcome to Autopia Supranator95. :welcome

Whatever finishing products you decide to use, it is critical to not focus on them too much. The condition your paint is currently in, and perfecting its appearance with proper and thorough preparation is the most critical thing to making your car look like the fine examples above.

Black paint can be very demanding to live with, but the results can be absolutely stunning! :bow

Neglected since October, with the exception of washings and/or U-spray-Em Rinse crud blasting, then this weekend washed with EO Wet n' Cheapo and one quick layer of S100. Possibly the dregs of last years Zaino under it.

After a bunch of reading and research on here along with studying the pictures that people post on here, this what I am going to use;

On my black and navy blue metallic cars, after a very thorough prep, I am going to use AIO/SG for protection and then top it with Pinnacle Souveran since the blue car is for shows and the black is for fair weather and I want it to look as good as possible. I am going to use P21S on my truck, which is a lighter color, and I want to do it more often since it is an all weather car.

Man, I really love that wet, liquid look of Souveran, but hate the price of that stuff. Anything cheaper give a similar appearance??

Scottwax, do you have any idea on the value of that Rolls you detailed?

List price is $328,000 which includes a $3000 gas guzzler tax (I saw the window sticker).

V-12 w/6 speed automatic

453 hp/531 lb-ft of torque

Suicide doors

420 watt Lexicon stereo with 2 subs

High and low beam HIDs

A couple of cow's worth of leather

One pretty big tree's worth of wood

I've been getting real good results with S100/P21S and Clearkote's Carnauba Moose. Meguiars #16 Pro Paste and Poorboy's Natty Wax are also excellent products. Any of them should get you 90-95% of the Souveran look at about 1/4th to 1/3rd the price.

Well, I have tried s100, but it appears more reflective than wet and liquid. Haven't tried the other ones, any idea which one will give the liquid look?? Like to buy the one that does this look, something different than the s100 that I presently have.

I read somewhere on Autopia that carnuba over AIO is fine but not over SG...something to do with the solvents and wax deteriorating the SG coat....

http://www.autopia.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=34282

good luck with it...my 2 cents...being a noob myself...is that it seems most people would agree with the AIO / S100 (or p21s) combo...I'm concidering AIO with Meg's #16 or Collinite's 047 just 'cause I'm lazy and don't want to wax more than neccesary...but if I didn't mind waxing the concensus seems to be S100

PS I just reread that thread I put the link in for and people here seem to think AIO/SG?Carnuba is fine....it seems poperautocare.com is the one recommending against it...

Hi lairdness,

I think some of the Carnauba waxes also have cleaners or chemicals in them which might remove some of the SG but the Souverän Wax and P21S have no cleaners in them and are supposed to be pure wax only. At least that it what I have read.
