Bah...NXT wash took off my UPP

Yeah so this afternoon I started washing my car with a pre-rinse with my Karcher 1300PSI pressure washer. I soaped up the car beforehand with a rather weak mix of NXT wash in my foam gun. I then proceeded to rinse off the car and noticed the sheeting on the hood was pretty good, I thought nothing of it at the time.

As I begin refill my foam gun, I added in a fairly good amount of NXT wash and proceeded to wash my car normally. Only when I began "flood" rinse of the car did I notice that the UPP on my hood and trunk was gone. Water just stayed on the hood and trunk. All slickness was gone. I ended up using 2 waffle weaves, a big blue and a water magnet to dry my G35. I then reapplied UPP and life was good again.

I just find it weird that NXT actually stripped my sealant off. I used a fairly good amount in the foam gun, but nothing out of the ordinary. I may end up going back to Zymol wash for my foam gun. Has anyone experienced this?

Oh yeah, I had two layers of UPP on the car, one layer applied maybe a month and a half ago, and the other layer applied maybe 3-4 weeks ago.

I think that maybe the 1300 psi pressure washer had more to do with the UPP being removed than the NXT.

I've used NXT wash on UPP a few times without problems, however, I much prefer 4* Auto Bathe with my UPP car.

At one point I thought there was a compatibility prob between SS&S and UPP, but finally determined it was because I had used way too much soap concentrate.

That shoots my theory down. I was thinking that there might have been some glaze under there and therefore......

I made a thread about this same problem and got some really good feedback. I used NXT wash quite often but realized it was hurting the durability of my LSP. I got a lot of positive feedback on the TOL Bubble Wash and decided to give it a try. It is probably one of the best soaps I have used in all aspects. I have read how UPP loses its slickness after the first wash or two. I have washed my car with one coat of UPP about 7 times and slickness remained very good. NXT wash in comparison is just a strong soap. I still like to use it when I know I will be doing a full detail, but not for my regular washing routine.

I seriously doubt that NXT wash stripped the UPP. NXT soap tends to leave "something" behind-meaning water tends to cling and dry to minimize water spotting. After a rain the beading returns. IF NXT wash really did remove the UPP then IMO ditch the UPP.

Thanks for the thread Ryan, I think I'll be ordering a gallon of the TOL wash if I can't find any close Zaino distributors near me.

I have a gallon of it and could probably give you a sample of it if you wanted. I'll have to get a bottle from WalMart or something

I got a sample of TOL's Bubble Bath a while back from Pigeonbus (thanks Carl :) ) and I have to say that I liked it a lot too. I was also using NXT at the time.

I have sinced gone back to Meg's Deep Crystal soap, since I had a jug of it laying around. I think it's gentler than NXT and allows the LSP to retain more of its slickness too.

Bill, like I said before, after rinsing with the pressure washer, the water sheeted off of the car. I felt the hood and it was still slick.

Let me state that the NXT wash I used prior to the pressure washer was a weak mixture that was leftover from my previous wash.

After the NXT wash and flood rinse, the water just sat there.

wannafbody, the UPP was gone, no sheeting whatsoever and there was ZERO slickness.

The weird thing about this is I've used NXT wash DOZENS of times via the foam gun with a similar amount of soap, maybe slightly less, and I've never experienced it totally striping the sealant off, maybe take the slickness a notch down. But nothing like this.

The only reason I up the soap/water mixture anytime is that I find that the more soap there is, the foam tends to cling more onto the car. I guess this time I just put way too much soap.

Ryan, I'd love a sample of TOL if you could spare some time/energy. I'll pay the s&h.

Paul, I've seen Meg's Deep Crystal at Wal-mart for unbelievable prices. I always assumed it was one of the cheaper Blue Coral-type washes because I've only read a handful of opinions on it and yours is the first positive one I've read.

Yeah it's pretty cheap and available anywhere. When I run out I'll probably just order a gallon of Bubble Bath from TOL, but for the time being, the Deep Crystal is fine. I use QEW most of the time anyway. The only time I get to use a normal soap and mitt is when I go home to visit and wash the car at my parents' house.

I just went into my garage and looked at the TOL wash and on the back of the bottle it has instructions for using it with a pressure washer. That may be good to know if you want to continue using a pressure washer. I'm actually getting a pressure washer soon so I may give it a shot myself!
