You had people in your shop washing cars with a masters degree?

YOU SO FUNNY !!!

No joke. I had a guy with a masters degree in Classical Music (while he was trying to find a job teaching), a guy with a masters in Electrical Engineering (recent arrival to Canada) and on and on. It should come as no surprise that some people who are VERY intelligent cannot do some very simple things. I once had a friend who had a degree in engineering but couldn't park his car!

Shine Shop and David I could not agree with you guys more. Customer service is what has set us apart for over 30 years. I always go over and beyond the call of duty. We offer FREE rides to and from our customers office. I give customers who need a loaner vehicle my brand new vehicle at no charge. We send every single customer a hand written thank you note. We have many detail shops in the Western New York area. There is one in particular that is a multi millon dollar car wash operation. They are the ones that will drive by my shop to see what we have that day. They are only 1/2 mile from our shop. I out class, out service and out perform them. When you do all this you will be busy rain or shine. We call every customer after the sale to make sure they are 100% satified. We call everyone by their name and we try to know a little bit about their family or job. We then will ask a personal question about them....Example... How is your son Michael doing in clooege now... Sorry to hear that your Mother died. That personal touch carries so much weight over the years as far as loyalty to your business

I'd be careful saying somthing liek that to a customer.

If somone who i payed to detail my car said that to me, they'd be the next to go :shocked

I also run the business on customer serivce, but I do draw the line. I will not kiss anyones ***. It is not in me to do that. If they want a great professional detail they come to me, if not go some where else. I don't offer loaner cars becuase of insurance issues that can come and bit you in the rear. I do become friendly with my customers but i try not to go beyond that. business is business and friends are friends. If you keep it at that you should have no problems.

I treat everyone with respect, and that works just fine for me.

I think what he means is that if a Customer said "I need my car done for a funeral, my mother died" Then he would say " Sorry to hear that your Mother died"

:wavey

I have to disagree.

I have some regular customers who are a Mom, Dad and sons whose cars I have been washing twice a month for about 7 years now. When the Dad died suddenly about 3 years ago, I sent the remaining family members a sympathy card. They let me know they appreciated the gesture.

I try to get to know my customers so I can personalize my service even more.

I like the idea. While i'm not really a proffessional in the sense of the word. I wouldn't mind having a site to give out info and bring in some business. Heck just getting one customer through the site for one detail would pay for the site for a year.

Also if any of the non technical people without web expierence wants help making a web site i'll volunteer. I'm not the best at it either, but can help to make it a little more unique.

Happy New Year Autopia Pros!

How many of you would like to have a website under the Autopia name where visitors can easily find you? I'm thinking of two service levels. Basic would be under the autopia.ws domain where you would be reached via www.autopia.ws/~yourname. Premium membership would give you your own domain, but you would still be accessible via a "Detailer's Directory".

I would include some key website features including:

* Autopia email

* Mini forum (one topic area)

* Appointment scheduler

* Web based page design

* Pre-defined web templates

Thoughts?

Bare with me as I haven't read the full 3 pages of posts yet.. but I was just thinking of something: you may want to use a different domain name? I mean.. I know if I was a client of a pro. detailer and also a motivated person and I happened to type in autopia.ws and forget the /~username and got directed to this forum and started browsing and what not and read about detailing n' all, I may just be inclined to start detailing my own car. :nixweiss

Now I know not everyone would be like this, but some people may be. I for one would not start detailing my own car after I already became the client of a pro. detailer who does a GREAT job. I'd be nervous I might mess up that "showroom quality" shine! :xyxthumbs

if they typed in the .ws domain, they'd reach the main page of the detailer directory. if they typed the .org domain, they'd reach "this site" (the forum) ;)

I'm still looking at directory applications to see if I can get this online quickly. I have found a couple that are "yellow pages" like and I did not like the format.

I too can design webpages if anyone would like to see some work that I have done- please PM me. My rates are very fair for professional work.
