Anyone have an Acura TL?

I assume your'e asking about the current model, 2004?

I have an 03 TL- s which I love. When I first saw the new 04 I wasn't crazy about the design. However, I have grown to love the new look. Great handling car I hear.

We have an 04 TSX which we love. While not a TL, I can only image that the TL is at least as good and probably better than the TSX in every area. The comfort of new Acura's cant be beat by anything in their class and the performance is sold as a rock.

how do you like the tsx? im thinking of getting a 4door, and it seems like a great buy especially the 6sp with navi. is your stick? and if it is, how do you like it? i already drove a couple automatic tsx's and they are fun and great cars, but ill never buy an auto for the rest of my life... just love 6 spds

I tried to change the subject line but could not....

I am also inteested in the TSX as well. They are a little closer to my price range. LOL

Thanks for the replies so far.

The sixspeed in the TSX is sweet. One of many reasons why I got mine. Another bonus is that you don't see too many of them on the road, although production has been increased somewhat.

The new TL is an awesome car. However to me the TSX was what I wanted - the perfect combination of size and performance/handling, not to mention that the price was right. I don't want to sway you towards a TSX, it really depends on what you really like/want. If you get a TL you won't be disappointed.

The downfall of the TSX is its 4 cyl. engine. For the same money you can have other cars with at least 225 HP and an engine that offers some real torque, with the same amenities (minus HIDs) that the TSX has.

The TL is a completely different monster.

I have an 05 TL with the auto tranny what would you like to know? So far it has been great it only ahs 550 miles so far. I love all the electronics( it has NAV a first for me) DVD A surround sound . I am getting a bluetooth phone to take advantage of teh hands free link. The voice control of all the functions in the car is fun as well. I ama bit spoilt regarding HP see below but the 270 as the Brits say is adequete for its purposes. I had an 2002 TL and the 05 handles head and shoulders above it. Another place to ask question would be www.acurazine.com

2001civicex,

I have the 03 TL Type S. Only came with an auto tranny. If you're talking about the tranny problems, I think they've gotten better with the '04s and '05s. I don't keep up with those though. With mine there are 2 major tranny problems. One is the second gear shaft which heats up, burns and boom. The second problem is the 3rd gear clutch packs are poorly made. There is a bandaid for the 2nd gear shaft, it's an "oil jet" which is used to spray "extra" fluid on the affected area to help cool it down. There is no fix for the 3rd gear. So that's a little background if you're looking at a used TL.

anywayz, the link posted above is loaded with info.

Forgot to add, a few of the '04s had some tranny issues (I think the earlier builds). They also had some flat spot problems with the tires...don't know if that got resolved though.

2001civicex,

I have a 2004 TSX w/ 6 speed that I really like; I chose it over a BMW 325i and the 04 TL, although each is very good and has tradeoffs. I preferred the nimble handling, smaller size, and cleaner interior design of the TSX compared to the TL. The BMW handling and engine smoothness was wonderful, but I thought the interior was below par and I expected reliability to be lower than Acura.

I agree the TSX could use a bit more power and quiet, like the TL. But I'm still very happy overall with it after a year.

There are thousands of TSX and TL comments over on the acurazine.com message boards, check those out for both unbiased and biased discussions.

My dad has an 04 TL (Auto Trans) bought a the end of Jan of this year. My father and I love the car except for the probs we have had. Keep in mind we have the early build model, so most of what I list may have been fixed in the later models or 05's. He only has 5K miles on the car right now (he doesnt drive much):

Problems so far:

1. Headliner near sunroof fell off! was hanging about 6 inches from the roof. The dealer replaced the whole headliner.

2. Had the same Transmission recall for an oil jet kit to be installed as the previous tl's and cl's like my car.

3. Crazy rattling from the A and B pillar (inside the car) Dealer replaced.

4. Vibrations around 55mph, Tires replaced with new re-formulated bridgestones, car still vibrates like crazy :(

5. THe chrome INSIDE the driver's side headlight is starting to bubble. (about a two square inch area) To be taken to dealer soon for replacement.

6. Memory seats do not work MOST of the time. (to be taken to dealer for fix)

7. New dealer replaced bridgestone tires are still flat spotting like crazy

I might be forgetting some other minor things but SO FAR that is what has gone wrong :( My dad loves the car. I mean for the price, it is very hard to beat. But he is strongly considering to get rid of it and get something built a little better. IMO he would be better off in a Lexus ES330 or GS model.

Does Acura still use the Bridgestone Turanzas as stock tires? Any car that uses those tires as stock equipment will have a common complaint of flat spots. Crappy tires overall and they cost a small fortune.

I used to really like the TL. And then I detailed a few, drove them to the parking spot, and noticed that every single Acura V6 I drove had idle vibration (some very slight--but still there). That shouldn't be with a 30k car.

The TSX and RSX I drove were smooth. Go figure.

Maybe they just have stiffer engine and trans mounts and you feel it more? My civic has some stiff mounts compaired to other cars I have owned.

My wife's daily driver is a "04 6spd TSX we've had since Feb. We're really happy about the car, no problems at all. It was between the TSX and an IS300 and the TSX was more car for the money.

We also looked at the TL but I wanted to stay under 30k. However the more I see the TL, the more I've gotten to like it and if I had it to do over might be tempted to cross the 30k barrier.

very true, but when you compare other cars to the tsx, the fuel economy isnt as good, and the tsx can keep up with many cars with more horsepower

you're right.. the tl is a monster... the tsx handles a lot better, but is significantly slower (what do u expect from a 70 horsepower difference :D)

but, you can always add aftermarket parts to a tsx... :bounce

Edmund's 0-60 for the TSX is 8.31 seconds. SUV territory. :p

0-60 and braking from 60 are better on a V6 Camry.

Don't get me wrong, the TSX is a very nice car. I just hate high revving, low torque engines.

Since you added the TSX to your question, I'll chime in. My wife's daily driver is an '04 TSX that we've had for about 12k miles now. We like it a *lot* up to this point.

As has been said already, it's not the fastest car, but I believe it's the best overall package for the price. It's a very good combination of driving dynamics and amenities. It's the perfect size for us, it handles well, and has enough power for daily driving, in my opinion. I really, really like the interior, also. Easy to read gauges, stylish layout, nice soft leather.

I give it :up :up

My only complaint up to this point is that the '04's have been plagued with some rattles. We have 2 of the rattles that people have complained about in our car (driver's window and passenger seatbelt). Up to this point, I've been waiting it out and checked message boards to see what kind of fixes the dealers have been trying. We'll take it in to get them fixed once I feel they'll actually be able to fix them. I haven't seen enough info on the '05's yet to know if the problems continue.
