Anyone ever wash their California Duster?

SLOWRIDE "take it easy"
I was wondering if I should wash my dust mop.:idea

And if I should dry it in the dryer to restore its static charge.

Any Advise is welcomed.

Thanks

its not just static
its also wax impregnated, so. no dont wsh it. if you need a new one get it

Its not that I think I need a new one { I should not think out loud}

Its been used so much the last time I shook it out & ate a mouthful of dirt gave me a soar thought for the whole day {the wind blew it back @ me.

I wonder what kind of wax they put in/on it?

I wonder if it can be recharged.

I wonder if I could spray some liquid wax or something like pledge on it. I mean someone made it there fore I can too.

Excuse me while I Google the sky.:yay

They say not to wash them but mine got so dirty that I bought a new one for the show car and washed the old one and use it on my DD
It works fine but I did not put it in the dryer you will melt the wax.

Do not use soap like Dawn you don't need to make it look like new just use a mild soap and remove most of the dirt and let it dry.

I just used my washed one on my new car today.
If you are not comfortable washing it WM has new ones for about 10 bucks.

never heard of washing them just the "they get better as they get dirtier" but i did get a corvette owner to throw his in the garbage at a show lol

I know they claim that they never need washing but think about how it works the cotton rope is coated with paraffin wax and the dirt sticks to the wax so when it becomes loaded with dirt you are dragging dirt over the paint expecting dirt to pick up more dirt.
To me that sound just a little
when it becomes loaded with dirt either wash it or buy a new one.
New would be better but if done right you can wash it and get more use I done it.

I'd just buy a new one. They're only $10 or so. (Bart is gonna get me for that. ;) )

It always amazes me that the same people that bash a CCD are the same people who say they can use waterless and rinseless washes 100% of the time and never get any marring. I don't care who you are - you'll never wash a care traditional method or otherwise and have a 100% mar free finish over time. There's just too many variables - foreign particle from the wind lands on your wash media and you gently glide over a panel and never realize it, for one - for this to ever hold true. No one here is washing in a vacuum and not one of us utilizes a totally frictionless wash method.

While I can see the hazards a CCD poses, I'm of the thought that if you use proper care and method it can be as safe as other methods of removing very light dust. Then again, I'm not one to try and fool myself (or customers) that they're ever going to have a 100% mar-free finish on a car that ever gets driven.

I remember there was a liquid paraffin wax in a bottle you could buy to re-coat the duster after washing it. I see that the CCDs have the wax baked into them now, so maybe they can't be re-coated anymore. A search of some catch words turned up nothing (I can't remember what the name was) and nothing is listed at the CCD site. Anyway, it seems the key to the CCD is the wax,as the strands seem to be just cotton, so you won't want to melt the wax off the duster (hot water or dryer) as it would adversely affect the performance.

I don't use any pressure & by the time I am done detailing I have a good thick coat of wax protecting the paint from the sun water & dust.

Depending on the season they are dust magnets sometimes even after a good washing they are static ly charged & every spec of dust & pollen in the tri state area is on it way to land on it.

Is there a way to zap that charge out of ,or off of the finish?

Not as much when I use Microfiber but still its like a bullseye for bird sh!t

Sealants are usually pretty staticy for the first day or so after you apply them. There is a chemical reaction taking place on your paint, so static isn't unexpected. Waxes, on the other hand, are going to be dust magnets until the oils evaporate. Some are a little better at not attracting dust than others, but they pretty much all have problems with it. It's just part of having a well maintained car. The dustier it is, the better it is protected. lol

I washed mine. ...with lighter fluid and a match. ;)

<-------- not a fan of the CCD

Yep it is all in how it is used.
I have seen people put their hand on the top of the brush because they could not remove what was on the paint by holding the handel.

I use mine at shows after I get the car detailed if it sits for awhile it will collect dust.
I watch and when I see the judges coming I go over my car with the duster before they get their.

Been doing it for several years without a problem.
Used correctly you can use it on DRY DUST but nothing else.

That must have been the same guy who Ii detailed 2 cars for & after I was done he said....: " I noticed you was the cars before you wax them."

I replied with,
'Well yea there is sand & road grime stuck to the bottom of the panels."
{ I Swear this no lie}

To which he replied
"You can use that sand as rubbing compound"

:eek::passout::huh:

This is a person who owned a custom accessories shop.

Needlessly to say I packed up my stuff & moved on never to return there.

He was fired.

:rofl:rofl:rofl:lol2: Oh my gosh that is probably the winner of everything I have EVER heard hahahahahaha

I found this on Autogeek site.

Care and Cleaning: The California Car Dusters work best when they’re dirty. Just shake them out before and after each use. Should your duster ever become so dirty that it requires an actual cleaning, just wash it in cold water with a mild detergent (like Woolite) and let it air dry.

Thanks Bart & everyone for their replies!

Um Pockets,

You just can't make this stuff up folks.:wall

I had a guy call me up & I drove to his house he wanted me to detail his 75 something chevy blazer {full size}.

Anyway , upon arrival I could not help but notice that this thing was a rust bucket I mean...:yikes:

I MEAN! ......

the Iron worms had eaten it up so far that you could not even think about wheel opening moldings.

I told him to take it to the nearest body shop , have it painted & then after the paint was cured in 6 to 9 months THEN call me.

I wish I had a Digital Camera back then.

This should be in the Horror stories thread where ever that is.

I swear I 'm not making this up ! :crazy2:I am not that good with fiction.:hmmm:
