Acura RSX Correction for an Autopian

A few months ago I was contacted by Autopia member "paulkramer" via a referral from David Fermani (Thanks David!) to perform some paint correction on his daily driver Acura RSX. At the time, the car was in need of some paint work where a previous repair had started to delaminate.

With the repairs completed a couple weeks ago, the car was brought to me last Wednesday for some clean-up and correction work. When it arrived the car was covered in a lot of overspray; nearly 3 hours of work with Meguiar's aggressive clay was required in order to remove it. Once everything was fully decontaminated the car was polished with D300 on a MF cutting pad, with the repaired panel polished using M205 and a W8207 polishing pad. Protection was provided compliments of Opti-Seal. Here are some pictures:

S100 Total Cycle Cleaner aerosol was used to clean the exhaust tip and remove bugs from the front of the car:

Here you can see the automatic wash scratches and RIDS that covered most of the car:

All gone:

More swirls on the hood:

And finally, a few after shots:

There were several of the deeper RIDS which did not come out of some areas on the car, since this was only a one-step polish. The amount of defects that did come out however are a real testament to the power of the Meguiar's DA Microfiber system.

Thanks for looking! :)

Sweet. LOL - I have to admit, the before shots look pretty good too! Not the close-ups, of course - and the paint definitely "pops" more in the distance after shots. :)

Thanks again Paul; yeah the before shots definitely aren't too bad, but that's because you at least keep it washed on a regular basis. Most of the vehicles you see looking really trashed got that way through total neglect. As bad as automatic car washes are, they're better than no washing at all.

Thank you, Charlie. I'm getting too old or too tired or too lazy to wash it by hand much. Seems like it's either too cold or too hot for me. Or I'm too busy.

Hell - the paint barely takes any abuse compared to the suspension. These roads just pound the life out of my car. :(

Well, the other option is the "touchless" automatic wash up on US27 (next to the Tim Horton's)... that way you're not subjecting the paint to brushes.

I hear you on the roads -- seems like it's a never ending battle around here. And of course when they finally do decide to fix things, they make it impossible to get anywhere.

Great looking one-step Charlie. That D300 is awesome!

Thanks Mike; D300 and the MF pads really make me wonder how we ever lived without them... makes getting quality results in a single step SO much easier!

Great to see this RSX done right. Awesome work Charlie in bringing some much needed clarity back to the paint. She looks like new and I hope the owner can better maintain her now that she has a second life.

Thanks Marc! Maybe see you tomorrow if Fermani gets back with us about a time and location to meet up.... :wavey

Jeez, Marc - you make it sound like I threw her to the dogs! LOL - that's right, you're the detailer to the rich and famous in the OC...... I'm neither rich nor famous, and this is just an old econobox/grocery getter.

Charlie - I've tried that touchless wash on 27 - it doesn't remove anything, unfortunately. :(

Really - it's an appliance, not a garage queen. But I do want to keep it looking and operating as well as reasonably possible.

LMAO - it just received rave reviews from an OC boy whose (extensively modified) RSX rarely leaves the garage. He drove it the other night and raved about how good it was. It just turned 129K, and it's been a true year-round DD for me since I bought it used in Jan. '05.

Feel free to send me my cut of the profits any time you can. :becky: The car looks great! Glad you were able to help out Paul! How ironic is it that you guys are so close to one another? Nice.

Really? I've got a neighbor who swears by that place.

That's funny; though I too can attest that it doesn't drive like a car with 129K under its belt.

Thanks again David! Yeah we were laughing about how Paul lives and works literally within 5 minutes or less from me, yet we had to meet through a guy from South Florida

What's even funnier is if my memory serves me correctly, Paul actually lived in S. Florida for a while and also Grosse Pointe where I'm considering moving back to.

It's a small world, after all!

IDK - didn't do much for me.

He won't admit it in public, lol.
