I couldn't believe how old some of the stuff at Carquest was.

I bought the 501 and DG 321. The 501 looked ok. Had to shake it for a sec though. The 321, had the old cursive ``non silicone dressing``writing on the bottle. It smelled ok. I e-mailed DG, and was told it should be fine, but to call them if I had any problems.



I should've just ordered from DG, because I haven't used the stuff yet because of rain. During this time, I could've already had DG ship me some fresh products. Then again how long does some of this stuff sit at DG in their likely "non AC" warehouse.

It's because most shop owners don't care. They pass the cost on to the customer/insurance company anyway.



My local automotive paint supplier is the same way.

Thanks for the info. I'm still curious as to the difference between the grey vs. dark blue and the light blue vs. purple. Any thoughts?

I beleive it's listed in order of aggressivness on the site. Purple is by the most aggressive. I would say the light grey and blue would be in the same league of the Meguairs clay. Pretty mild Just the perfect solution for those soft clears. And yes I tend to order in quanity several times a year rather than one bar at a time. But even at the $13.50 it's still much cheaper than $48.50 if you only need a bar or two.

A local guy over hear frequents all the local car events trying to sell his Meg's Gold Class products, and people ignore him! He's got everything for great prices. I bought a Gold Class tire brush (discontinued in the U.S.) for $7 and a chenelle wash mitt for $5. He had Mirror Glaze aggressive clay for ~$20. I'm picking up that container of clay next paycheck, with a specific job in mind: a friend's '55 Plymouth that has never been clayed.

I think Advance Auto has the Clay Magic kits for 10 bucks, the blue clay which works on most things. Megs Clay kit - bought one - thought it sucked, clay was weaker than my kids play-doh.

I thought I was the only one that felt that way about the Meg's white clay bars.



I prefer Clay Magic blue or red bars.

I get my clay for $11.50 ea. and feel absoutly stupid when I have to pay a dime more anymore.. that place is insane

How do you like the way those clay perform, durability compared to Opti-Clay, elastic clay or Clay Magic ?



For that price it is pretty decent for a block of 7-8oz clay.



Too bad there is no international standards for color vs grade and is different for every manufacturer. As far as I am aware there is really is only two grades "fine" and "heavy" which can also mean medium or mild.



I think Auto Wax will be after these guys pretty soon for contraband !

I would also like to know how the purple washway clay compares to the Meg's mild and agressive. I'm looking to pick up 2-3 bars of that stuff if its somewhere in between the Meg's. Yea, Meg's white clay is too weak, especially when efficiency counts.
