303 vs. vinylex

Which Armor All product contains the "Good Silicone"?

Anyone hear about Armor All's Detailed Advantage? Ive used it once or twice before, and it seems to be pretty good.. doesnt last as long as one would like, but i havent seen any browning..

I have seen the Detailers Advantage and the stuff looked clear and chuck full of bad silicone to me.

The Armour All stuff thats good is in a black bottle, and says matte finish, grease less, and the like of a PDMS water based dressing. I shoudl of picked it up, darn! I'll check this wednesday for it at K-mart if its still there.

EDIT: Lexol Vinylex can be mixed with water to make it less shiny. Its water based and Ron K mentioned this earlier. I still have to try it, but I like Vinylex the way it is, nice medium sheen.

you know what, that's the first time I've seen the inside of a newer gti (glx? judging by the wood) really cool :up BMDP does have it's special flair on VW dashes. Maybe they should bottle the stuff as VW Dash stuff, course they'd quintouple the price as a result, hehe

(notice how low the shine, even in direct sunlight)

I've tried Black Magic Semi-Gloss after hearing Steve rave about it. I use it on the dashes of both my cars (one is smooth, the other is textured), and both come out great! It has a low sheen and is loaded with UV inhibitors. And you can't beat the price either! :up :up

YoSteve: Are you referring to my dash??
Sorry if I confused you. I have a BMW 330i. That is the photo you saw of my 330i dash treated with BM semi-gloss.
GTI is my name's initial. I like VW cars too.

I've currently use Vinylex and 303 for different applications. My findings:

On the vinyl unpainted plastic bumpers and trim on our minivan.
<ul class='bbc'>[*] 303 looks dark but not as shiny as the Vinylex [*] They Vinylex streaks much more apparently after rain [*] The 303 doesn't collect as much dust and seems to hold up longer
On my trucks interior plastic and dash:
<ul class='bbc'>[*] The 303 leaves the dash on the truck looking like it has no protection. [*] The 303 collects less dust [*] The Vinylex is shinier and for my truck that looks better imho
For the Porsche :
<ul class='bbc'>[*] The 303 on the black interior looks clean and <em class='bbc'>stock :xyxthumbs [*] The Vinylex looks good on the Porsche's tires
I agree. Great bang for the buck. I use it on a lot of customer cars, but I think 303 works slightly better (I compared the two a while back, and if you really want to see my comparison you can search for it), so I use the 303 on my own car.

Thanks bud! I'm back from the computer induced twilight zone where nobody knew my name so I had to keep signing in over and over and couldn't post either. It was <strong class='bbc'>TERRIBLE! Now I'm back and I'm enjoying the new crib. :)

i must say 303, smells like ***. i dunno, i put it on, wipe on, buff etc... came back to my car a few hours later, smelled like bad BO or something. i had to put vinylex on to get rid of the smell. the shine of vinylex isnt so bad... and the smell is new car-ish. but 303, while it is less shiny, to me, smelled bad.

303 does smell bad to me that is why I use it exterior only.

FOr interior try the Black Magic Semi Gloss dashboard spray....it smells like citrus a bit.

I love the smell of Zaino leather in a bottle so I use that in my truck.

I was gonna say if that's what VW's (non-Passat) look like nowadays, I want one!! I originally thought it was an E46 interior, the H/K sound system threw me off a little (never seen one). :wavey

Hello, I've heard so much about 303 and Vinylex. Both being about the same. Vinylex is water based, has a UV protector and contains silicones, but these are the "GOOD" silicones with no Petroleum Distilates which promote cracking. In my area(NE Pa.) Vinylex is about $9.00 at Pep Boys and 303 is roughly 2x more only available at a specialty shop. I just used Vinylex on the interior of my new Acura RSX,... Looks really good. Today, a co-worker told me that after rain, the 303 left a run mark on his chrome bumper. I'm wainting to see how Vinylex holds up on my exterior black trim and interior. I'd appreciate any feedback.............

I just tried BMDP on Yo Steve, recommendation. Also, because Pep Boys was closing out of the product, so they could sell more super, extreme gloss protectants(?). Bought the last bottle for $1. Who sells BMDP?

I really liked the matte finish compared to the shiner Vinylex. I will use both products for differnt things around the car.

Eric

:bounce BMDP might actually become a acronym, hehe

The Blue Coral people: Rain Dance, Rain-x, Black Magic, Slick 50 and Westleys, sell it. Ironically, they are located in Cleveland.

Maybe if we start a calling campaign they will still continue to sell it.

I only buff it in certain areas that shouldn't be slick and if I get a streaky appearance. I don't usually buff most of the 303 on my dash since it's covered in a thick textured vinyl.

You can layer it too!:xyxthumbs

I can layer it ??

*rubs hands* You shouldn't have told me that..

Wonder what 2000 coats will look like...

Be right back...

Muhahahaha
